Apparently a Hudson-powered Model A: "Mr. Curtiss has made one major upgrade, installing a Hudson Terraplane engine in 1940, because, he said, “I raced kids home from high school with it, but there were a couple of cars I couldn’t beat.” That allowed it to go more than 80 miles an hour, compared with 55 m.p.h for a standard Model A. “Then I could beat them all,” he said."
  • Ah, missed that bit was looking for the whole article to be about Hudson when I saw the words Ford Model A I fell asleep LOL

Yikes! 80 m.p.h. in a Model A Ford! Have you ever tried to stop one of those from 40 m.p.h.?????
  • Maybe he put the Terrible Pain brakes on it too?????

Yep, I've got one...it can stop pretty darn good if it needs to. Just have to remember to tighten the brakes up every once in awhile.

I met an old timer in Reno who used to race Terraplanes in the '40's. He also referred to them as "Terrible Pains." LOL

My 31 Model A Tudor was my first car too. Bought her in 1956.. I used cast iron drums on the front. stops as good as any car . cruises at 55 .. Now I wonder if I could shoe horn a 308 in her?
