Can anyone tell me where I can purchase seat material the same pattern and quality as original or very close to it? W-2 gray Broadcloth stripped. Someone must have redone a stepdown interior out there somewhere. Thanks Paul

LeBaron Bonney Co. interior fabrics can be viewed online. Good match for 1949 is stripped wool 15-66-1. This is material that was used in our 49 S8 and Ken Schulte's 49 C8. Inquire toll free 1-800-221-5408 mailto:

    lbb-hc@greennet.net

The same material is available from SMS Auto Fabrics-reproduction fabrics, 2325 Southeast 10th Ave, Portland, OR 97214 (nice stripped wool for 49) call, for swatch. 503-234-1175

I just ordered some samples from LeBaron of the 2 patterns I thought matched my Commodore the closest.

Neither was very close to the original (IMHO) in terms of color or pattern ~ but maybe as close as you'll get these days

I thought the 15-66-1 sample has more pop but I thought the colors were much darker, the 15-72 sample was closer in general color but needed a lighter band similar to the other sample to make it closer to the original seats.

I did order some samples from SMS - but I haven't received those yet.

Thanks for the help as I have contacted SMS and LeBaron Bonney for samples. The other material I need to replace is the door panels and the fabric on the rear of the front seat. Does anyone have a fabric sample code they used? Thanks again Paul
  • I just got the sample in today from LeBaron #15-66-1 and found it close to the original but just off enough in colour and pattern. I am waiting for the samples from SMS to see how they look. I was at a cruise tonight and found a 1949 Buick with the original interior and it was right on the sample 15-66-1.

Be careful when ordering from SMS. I gave them $1000 for upholstery in February and didn't receive my fabric until June. Everytime that I called, She told me that I would have my fabric in two weeks. My complaint is this- don't lie to me about the turnaround time and don't take my money and hold it for months on end.
