Rear Spring Bushings

I am in the middle of replacing the rubber bushings on the rear springs of my '51 Hudson. Queston: On the rear shackles, are there only rubber bushings where the leaf spring attaches to the shackle? NOT where the shackle attaches to the frame. It looks as if there are only some threaded sleeves that screw into one another where the shackle attaches to the frame. It looks and feels as if it is all metal and no rubber bushing there! Is this correct?
Peace,
Chaz

There are no rubber bushings in the frame or the spring eye in the rear. There are a pair of rubber bushings in the front eye of the spring only.

There are soft rubber grease retainers that go on the 'U' side of the shackle. If you don't have these, cut a shock bushing in two. They are a little harder but will work.

The lower left rear spring-eye bushing iis a left-hand thread in both the spring-eye and on the shackle. The other 3 are right hand thread.

When you re-assemble, make sure the bushing doesn't bottom out on the shackle. It needs some room to move when the spring flexes. You want to thread the bushing onto the shackle about a turn and 1/2 before is starts threading into the frame or spring eye. Check and make sure there is at least one whole shackle thread under the grease retainer before the bushing bottoms out on the shackle.
