Usless infomation

In our local paper there was an artical today talking about the new VE holden commodore ute being rebadged Chev Elcamino , you guys have seen the earlier models there as the Pontiac GtO 2 door coupe

these cars are very popular as you guys have arguments about Ford and Chevs, Down under its arguments about Ford and Holdens and there is a huge race weekend were they race at Bathhurst

Commodores definitly keep the early name sake (hudson) and racing tradition going well down here

Coming to your local dealership soooon

  • Thanks for the warning.
  • G'day all...

Cool ute/pickup, SS version has 6litre V8, 6speed manual or 6speed auto, sophisticated independent rear suspension and very quick 1/4 mile... mid 13's in stock SS form. 400 plus horse power HSV Maloo (Holden Special Vehicles) version will do 12's and a little over 5 seconds to the 100KPH. These HSV Holdens use Callaway Corvette engine parts. These are yet to be released.

Here is the New Holden VE Commodore Ute range. These will be sold in the Middle East badged as Chev El Caminos. GM is yet to confirm the sale of these to the USA but insiders say it is almost a definate. Ideal tow vehicle for those trailer queens hey.

    I just love the colours.
  • holden released the load capacity figures - half ton at best in the base model, if you get a fancy one its even less. i havent seen any word on towing capacity but i doubt it would be any more than 2 ton. just a coupe with a bed. wanna tow cars, get something else
  • I like those - a modern El Camino! Hey, guys, they sold the El Camino and the Ranchero in North America from 1959-1960/1964-1988 (ElCo) and 1957-1986 (Ranchero), which were just US incarnations of Aussie Utes! you're not going to pull a fifth wheel RV or a 30' boat with this, so what's the problem? Our markets are definitely ready again for a Ute-style with some utility to it (not like the SSR, which has none!). I'd like to see them brought here, personally! We have the Pontiac GTO (an Aussie Holden coupe!), so why not these? Shouldn't be too hard to Federalize these, since the GTO already is!

Does the Popsicle company know they're using their colors?
  • I might need one of those for piano deliveries....
  • I pulled a horse trailer with a 61 Falcon Ranchero for a while when I was a kid, it was so underpowered that if I went up a hill I had to get the horse out and tie him to a tree while I pulled the trailer up the hill, then run down and ride the horse up to the trailer. I did lots of crazy things when I was young but running down Cajon Pass with a horse trailer full of burro colts and a horse with a ranchero with a two speed auto trans may have been the craziest. There wasn't any way in the world I could stop all that weight if I had to in a hurry, it was hard enough getting it all moving. At least the El Caminos were close to a half ton truck, it doesn't look like these new ones will be. They sure will be pretty though pulling jet skis and motorcycles for the weekend warriors.

  • Fresh news today on the new Commodore ute. Holden boss announced that the ute will make it's way to the USA but not as an Chevy El Caminio. He does not announce what it will be but critics are saying a Pontiac G8 sports ute or a GMC Sprint... what ever the latter was, never heard of one. A Holden based Pontiac G8 sedan is already scheduled for the US.

    Some Specs here...

V6 base model has a payload of up to 794kg. The V8 has a payload of up to 528kg. Max towing capacity for both is 1600kg.

    The 6litre V8 has 270kw @ 5700rpm and 530nm @ 4400rpm.

The official sale date in Australia is 1st OCT 2007.

Holden has built this ute for the sports car minded people that want a bit more space.

One more point... the out going 2007 HSV Maloo ute holds the world record for the worlds fastest production ute/pickup with a top speed of 276 kmh. this was done out in the outback earlier in the year.

    regards
  • The GMC Sprint nameplate was their badging on an El Camino. Very slight differences in trim and grille is about all there was.
  • Thanks Patrick66 on that GMC Sprint info. I'm no longer puzzled on what it was...

Price... It would be around US$30,000 for the top of the range. A lot cheaper than the vette yet basically has the vette drive line. This should get your hearts pumping....No need to cut and shut the vette.

What do you think of this G8 ute. I found this on the GMInsideNews web site. Here is a huge discussion on all upcoming GM models along with hundreds of critics. Very interesting information on future US GM products.

    regards
