Asbestos Question
I have abother concern. My 1930 Essex has what I suspect is asbestos covering the exhaust pipe where is leaves the manifold. This material is flaking off. I know asbestos is a hazardous material. What should I do about this? Should I remove it or cover it with something? Is it needed? Is there a replacement? Thanks.

Kay Gap sells a exhaust pipe wrap.0

If you're going to remove it, make sure you wear a disposable painter's mask and gloves. Then, soak the wrap with water to prevent any asbestos fibers from becoming airborn. Remove old material with a disposable brush and plenty of water.0

I removed one of these, using the same methods but would suggest using a respirorator. Put plastic on the floor to catch debris and then bag , tape bag and discard. Rinse the car out well.
