    gold, just get "High Temp"
  • Tom, The color of Hornet engines from 51-53 was Gold. The 54 model year used a Chinese red color similar to Chevy blocks. Intake manifold is Gold .Exhaust is cast iron {natural} Many folks use a black or grey manifold paint on it .Pan is gold as well. Transmissions were a mixed bag. Some are painted some aren't . Mine is natural cast iron. I used Cadillac gold HTP when doing mine. Others may have used substitutes that work just as well.
  • I used Cadillac gold HTP on my 52 Hornet. I also see some that are a little more on the bronze side. Don't know which is closest to original.

If you want a nice effect, paint the intake manifold high temp red.
  • Josh, I used VHT red brake caliper paint on my 54 engine and intake, No problems yet. I cleaned the block with brake kleen from Autozone, then wiped it down with laquer thinner. I sandblasted the intake and exhaust, Painted the intake red and left the exhaust as it was.

53 should be gold. I stripped my 54 block and trans down to metal and both appeared to be a red orange. The Dupicolor Engine Ford Red seemed right on so I have gone with that on mine. Like Hudzilla has mentioned before a lot of things don't seem to really have a pattern, especially 54. I still haven't really pinned down my original body color. Really and odd one, almost a Salmon color and it doesn't match anything in the charts. Just do the best you can and enjoy ;)
