I all, Iam getting a small mural put on the rumble seat lid and I have picked the lady to go on it (off a bomber plane) and she is nealing on 1 leg which she is wearing a tastefull negligee, I was going have her neal on a old fashon wire display stand holding 1 quart bottles of oil, I would like those quarts to be hudsonite transmission oil

I suspect that they didnt come in quart bottles but its the thought that counts

My question is was this produced by Hudson or a oil company for them ie Texaco or someone?

Thanks for your help

  • Like other automobile manufacturers, I would assume that Hudson outsourced for the oil. It was available in anything from a case of 48 small cans to 55 gallon drums.

I am right that it was used for the transmissions?

as I want to be reasonably correct as once on the car wont be taken off

    thanks Mike

    Mike,

Hudsonite is actually 'clutch fluid'. Hudson cars/trucks used wet clutches that ran in a bath of Hudsonite. This was a regularly changed fluid, much like engine oil.
  • i should take a pic of this old permatex can i have for you.
  • What's a matter with you guy's? Hudsonite? What about the Naked Lady!

Here is another question for you, Where did the name 'Rumble seat' come from? Was this just a common name, or was this the proper term?

We want to make sure that the young lady's negligee is tasteful. Hudson people are nothing if not tasteful. This goes for dainty, lacy underthings in the boudoir as well as for vehicles in the garage. We make sure to keep things wholesome and, above all, tasteful!

opps I forgot to say that the negligee is painted in flip flop, and all done in the best possible taste as Kenny Everrit used to say LOL

Here is the origin of the expression "rumble seat" . Called a "dickey" in Britain.

“The rumble seat is a seat that folds out at the rear of a vehicle,

holding one or two passengers (typically). One is exposed to the

    elements.

The rumble seat's origin seems to have come from horsed-drawn

carriages, where the servants did not ride inside the carriage but on

a seat that folded down in the rear. The English term rumble seems to

have come from the noise associated with riding in the rear, albeit,

horse-drawn carriages were not that much quieter on the inside, though

padding and thick glass or heavy curtains did reduce road noise a

    little bit.

The first automobile with a rumble seat was a Packard built in 1908

that was just a two-seater, with the rumble seat in the rear. Because

it was only a two-seater, it was nicknamed the "Honeymoon Car".

RIGHT ON TARGET JON, Personally I'm in favor of just plain dropping the whole idea, one little step far too often leads to a big leap. NO HET CAR NEEDS A SCANTILLY CLAD FEMALE ON IT AND WE SHOULD NOT IN ANY WAY ENCOURAGE THIS PRACTICE! In my own personal opinion it's just plain trashing a fine automobile.

    Thanks for the pics,

guy thats doing the mural has won awards and he does the flames and the buzzy bee on the keel of our last Americas cup boat challenge
  • Maybe we should have an HET Censor Board that would require all racy art work to be submitted to the D.O.G committee (Dirty Old Guy's) before we issue the official HET seal of approval. I really don't have time for this, but reluctanty offer my services.
