"Sir Vival"

Here's a photo of the safety car fabricated by a gentleman in the 1950's. If something about it looks familiar, it's not your imagination! This car made a brief flurry in the news (I think it was in Popular Mechanics, among other magazines), then disappeared from view. One interesting feature was the 'conning tower' window through which to driver viewed the terrain; it was a glass cylinder, and revolved past a stationery vertical windshield wiper blade!

Today, it's owned by H-E-T'er Ed Moore.

I read that the intent of that car's design was to create the safest car possible. Obviously, at the expense of looks.

By the way, the car suvives (pun not intentional). It's in the possession of one Ed Moore in MA. And, yes, part of it was Hudson.

  • Sir Vival has been in storage for many years and in not operational at this time. Carl Weber has encouraged Ed Moore to bring it to next years National Meet on Marlborough, Ma. for all to see. Hopefully he will. The car was built in Worcester, Ma.

Thats one I'd like to see in person. Not pretty, but creative. Part Hudson, part city bus, part zambonie, part bumper car, and part Case.

I'd like to see how the articulated steering is set up.

  • I remember seeing pics and reading an article about this cars around the time it was built, mid 50s as I recall.
  • I have wanted to see the car ever since I first heard about it about 10 years ago. Maybe I will get a chance to go by Ed's place someday.
