Oil Question

The 2007 car show and cruise days are coming to a close here in CT. I usually put my cars away for the winter by the end of October.

My question is, should I change oil before storing the cars for the winter or next spring when I take them out of storage? Some people say spring some say fall. What is the opinion of our illustrius forum members.

  • Used oil contain contaminants that are not good to leave in an engine for an extended period of time. Think of it like going to sleep for several months without taking a shower and wearing dirty clothes. I change oil before storage.

Sounds like the most logical argument I've heard.

  • Thanks, I do have occasional bouts of logic. Years ago, I learned the lesson about changing oil (prior to extended storage) from a mechanic at a car club tech session. He showed the results of what acids and moisture in oil did to the main bearings that soaked in polluted oil. Not pretty what a few seasons of that did.
