1926 Essex
Hi everyone, still having problems starting the Essex, even when warmed up ! CHecked the battery and it was given a full bill of health, all new leads (nice and chunky). Seperate engine earth and a new clean earth direct from the battery. I have taken off the battery cut out. The engine was re-white metaled about 1000 miles ago, would this really effect it? jumping with a 12 volt battery fires up the engine instantly.
I have also just broken 2 of the 4 fan baldes (the one that holds the ball bearing) anyone got one or can one get it welded back on? It did not half snap with a bang and has punctured a hole in the side of the bonnet (hood).
I have just looked at everyones old feed back in June and I have had my starter motor out and tested by the "experts" and they have found nothing wrong with it and gave it a clean bill of health. I do not have a hand crank so turning it over by hand it not to easy.

I've put a stepdown fan blade on a 28 Essex. Maybe one will fit on a 26.0

The best remedy for the fan is to go to a wreckers and find a 4 blade plastic fan off a Datsun / Nissan 180B or 200B. These fans have the exact bolt hole placement and fit the on the fan pully assembly perfectly with the correct distance from the radiator etc. These have been a common upgrade on Essexs here in NZ. No future worrys about broken blades and possible damage to the radiator or bonnet and the pull plenty of air!

A Step Down is a 1948 to 1954 Hudson excluding Jet. Step Down was Hudson's advertisting for these models.
Another choice for a fan is one from a Hudson Jet.
Breaking fan blades is a very common problem on Essex sixes.0 -
Thanks for the Datsun / Nissan tip, I will have a hunt around. Does anyone reccomend changes the car over to 12 volt to get over the starting problem? Its already negative earth.0

Both my cars are on 6 volt and I have never had a problem. I have no intention of converting them - they start well, lights are satisfactory and it is how they were and it is not a disadvantage. My thoughts anyway.
Good luck with getting the starting issue resolved and for finding a fan blade - if you have no luck in finding a fan let me know and I could make some enquiries around here.
