37 T-Plane hood lace

Can anyone give me examples of how the hood lacing is attached? I used screw nails for the back side and tried rivets on the front, but I can not get the rivets tight. Is there a technique or tool that may work?

I am also looking for the fastners for the stainless trim that goes along the side of the hood. There are 6 pieces total with the 2 in the middle being longer than the others. I had enough for 5 pieces so I am just looking for enough to fasten one piece.

I seem to recall using a sort of screw nail on mine, that you hammered down. You say they aren't tight....are you sure you're using the correct diameter. Have you measured the old ones? Here is a page from Restoration Specialties in Windber, Pa. -- they have a number of sizes of screw nails and body nails. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/2005%20catalog%20pdf/2005%20CATALOG.pdf

The screw nails worked, I can't get the rivets tight enough on the front holes..
  • Found out the rivets are what was used. Still looking for the fastners for the stainless trim piece on the side of the hood. I had salvaged enough to do 5 pieces, but need some to put on the 6th. If anyone has any, let me know.

    Thanks!
