This car has been here before, but was wrongly advertised by the son of the owner without permission. Well here it is again being sold by Shannons Auctions. Reserve is between $100,000 - $140,000 Australian. I think it will sell for around that money, just hope it stays here in Australia.

  • Thats correct, YOM plates are very much sought after but most of these plates would be remanufactured. Investers and the wealthy buy these plates to put on their expensive cars, and keep the originals stored safely. Plates first appeared in Australia when Automobiles first appeared. To own such a plate and not using it, you can put them on hold in your name through the transport registrers. So if the plate gets stolen, you will still own that number and be issued a replacement plate of the same number. There is no way the thief can use that stolen plate. Many original HET cars can still be found in barns with these plates on them, but that does not mean that the number can be used as the owner let the registration lapsed therefore someone can issue that same number after a 12 month period.

I once had a NSW plate SX-000 on hold for later use but I let it lapse. I tried to get it back but someone else claimed it after a 12 month period. Bad luck for me.
