6 volt, pos. ground gauges
While making an instrument panel for my engine test stand, I began to wonder what I'm going to use for gauges.
I'd like to set it up with gauges that work right off the original sensors, and as we all know, they are six volt - positive ground, so I assume these are the gauges I'll have to look for.
I'd like to have oil presure, temperature, and a tachometer at the very least, with an original ignition switch and keys, and maybe a vacuum gauge as well.
Does anyone know if Stewart Warner, or any other gauge supplier still offers six volt, positive ground gauges, or will I have to get some originals off a parts car ?
If a parts car is my only source, does anyone have some round ones they'll part with ? All my parts cars are '52 - '54, and the cluster in these cars is a little large for the application in my opinion. I'd prefer some smaller single gauges, or maybe all in one round cluster.

Oil pressure and temperature should be mechanical, independant of electrical, except for a light bulb, to illuminate.
EDIT* I didn't see you wanted to use the original sensors... I guess this is a bit off, I apologize.... :eek:0 -
The gauges are not polarity dependant - they will work the same whether positive or negative ground. However, you will need a 5 volt regulator if using '52-54 gauges, as they are designed to work on 5 volts to give an accurate reading. If using an old dash cluster, the voltage regulator should be screwed to the back of it.
