An interesting study of machines returning to the earth.0

I know the auctioneer personally, and he called me last night to see if I wanted to come over Sunday and take a look and see what is there. I live less than an hour from there. He said that the guy who owned this lot would drag these cars in and build half-assed buildings over some of them. There is 3 or 4 collapsed buildings that have cars in them that they don't even know what they are. I will let you know what is there and see if there are any Hudson's.

Hey Barry, see if that is indeed a Muntz Jet, it is the one that is dark gray with what looks like a 55 Chevy grill sitting in front. Those are pretty rare birds.0
-
That is one of the first things I am looking for (besides the Crosley LoL) I will see if I can get some pictures.
Thanks, Barry0 -
HI BARRY, Think he'd mind if you had a friend along ? Need to look at your sewing machine, about ready to get at it.0
-

Barry0 -

See you then, I might drive the Jet.
Later, Barry0 -
Do not know if there are any other HUDSON GEMS in the group... but this is seems to be the ultimate in Custom Hudson pickups!0

Yes, Ive spotted a Hudson, It appears to be a 41 Hudson Sedan of some sort.
It takes an young sharp eyed aussie to spot this one even though we did not receive this model down-under. It might be a cheap buy for me...lol.0 -

Yes, that one needs the chain saw they were referring to in the auctioneers notes0 -
Everytime I try to download the car photos, the computer freezes up!0

PATEINCE , It takes forever on mine but they do get there.0

Good news is, its OK to fall some timber to get to your purchase; bad news is, the only way to fall that substantial tree in front of the Hudson is onto the Muntz Jet! Well, maybe not, but can you imagine orchestrating the removal of that stuff, what with the vegetation and the other cars in the way? :rolleyes:0 -
Way too much trouble involved in retriving most of the cars pictured, IMO. Can't see much of that bringing more than scrap value because of that.0
-
We just got back from the yard, mother nature had the Muntz and the 41 Hud for lunch. In my opinion scrap is gonna have to be at an all time high for even those guys to dig it out of the briars, then I think they'd have to give it to them, pretty bad. 30-40 years too late. Oh well, spent the day with some good ole Hud guys anyway. Got chauffered in Barrys Jet, pretty nice.0

man, i wish i could of walk thru there for a day. i wanted pic #22,#34. love sedan deliverys studebaker? and corrct me but, is that a 48 playboy rag top pic #55 or a metropolitan?? any pics taken ?? dermott.:cool:0

I will have some pictures posted in a day or two. Was a very interesting trip. That Muntz Jet belongs to mother nature, She is pretty bad, I did get some pictures. This guy must of had a screw loose somewhere. Lot of great cars lost. I did find the crosley though, 49' 50 sedan, but some dummy cut the roof off. I am going to try to save it for the parts. The mets were gone, maybe good for parts. Two Austin Bantams, Out of all the cars, (maybe 250) there was only a hand full that were restorabale. Will keep you guys posted on how the auction goes. Thanks for the company Bud, Glad you like my Jet, Maybe I can figure out what that vibration is, got a little worse on the way home, but I made it!

That ain't good buddy,if you want a bit of assistance yell and I'd be glad to help you look for it, bout anytime those docs haven't got me corralled0

Another horder collecting cars for 30 years thinking he has a gold mine! Another waste of rare cars rusting into the ground that noboby can salvage!0
-
Well, I think I'd have to go along with Barry with the not too well oiled machinery theory. Liveing situation not the best in the world so he sure could have used a few bucks now and then. Yes ,that's what I thought, awfull waste, and why altho we all need spares for some things and future projects why in most cases I'd rather see things go on a car needed to make it useable than on the shelf gathering rust-n-dust.0

Barry sent me the pics from the scrapyard for all to enjoy! Nice pics...0

Last but not least...0

Great shots, thanks, guys. That LaSalle grille is a street rodder's wet dream...:cool:0
-
Yikes... From the look of it, the the only people attending this auction will be those the owner will have to pay to come and clean up the mess. However, you never know what (or who..maybe Hoffa) you'll find in an old car at this place.0
-
oh yes sam, i would grab that frt clip. thats not a duece roadster is it, with bows up. what a shame to watch this get crushed.:eek:0
-
Yeah, Barry did a great job trying to get pics, it was'nt easy. The bad part is there are only PARTS of the cars still useable and in such a mess most not worth digging out the whole car unless your DESPERATE for the part.Where you see a good front or back the other end is gone or shot. It's a real midwest jungle, trees growing up thru cars, shacks made from tree limbs fallen down , goat trails to get in/out and acres of good ole briars. Really sinks your heart to see these end up as they have.0

I too was there with Barry and a host of other scavengers on Sunday last.
After looking at Barry's photos it reminded me of how much you can easily look past in the junk pile. Some of the structures that the cars are under were built with 4 inch tree trunks, two by fours, and galvanized steel roofing. The roofing was of course flat and after years of weather and having things piled upon them have simply fallen in on the cars. You had to get on your knees to see into these areas and found yourself counting three, six, nine, hey! There are twelve cars in here. I would say there were at least five different structures like this that would require weeks of work to really get at all the cars.
I tried to walk back and look at things a second or third time and still I see stuff in Barry's pictures that I missed.
There are a couple of cars there worth saving in my opinion. But my guess is that everyone that goes in would pick a different couple of cars they would save.
I hope that the right stuff, gets into the right hands.
