47 PU, Plz set me straight...
I have now been told, advised and direc ted by a bunch of fine folks reguarding the similarities of the sheet metal on the pu vs. the commodore. Question #1, are the front fenders the same? I have been told yes all along, until today when a chap advised me that they are not, the running board area is totally different. The rear fenders? I know mine have an "adapter-spacer", but the actual fender looks the same...any assistance is appreciated. I am a newbie here, but my interest in this old truck is life long.
Thanks in advance.

Front fenders on the p.u.s have no cutout for the running boards, as the 42 to 47 cars do. rear fenders are truck only unless you can do a lot of sheet metalwork0

We had better let the "pickup guys" answer you on this one! I do know that the doors are "1941", as they don't have the little flare-out at the bottom that the '46-7's do. Actually, under the skin, they are the same door as a '46-7; the flare-out is merely tacked on. So, it would stand to reason that the place where the front fender joins the doors, would be slightly different.
We'll restate, then: in general, the '46-7 truck share a good deal of sheet metal, chassis and running gear components with the passenger car (Commodore and Super Six) but there ARE some variations.0 -
The front fenders are the same as the 1941 Super Six & Commodore series.
The rear fenders are also the same as the 1941 Super & Commodore, however, there is a spacer spot welded to the edge of the rear fender where it would ordinarily attach to the body to allow it to fit flush to the side of the flat (or straight) sided pickup box. The running boards on the '46 & '47 truck ar the same as those used on tthe 1941 Custom Commodore 8 128" wheel base car.

The fender I have is at my brothers house. I will see if he can take a picture of it. I don't remember exactly what shape it is in. I think it is usable.
Did you find out who is making the repro. running boards? Originals are about impossible to find from what I hear.

Hi Hudson Dave here . For what It's worth The rear fenders on a truck are totally differnt from a car . The opening for the tire on the truck Is round , the car is almost square . LOL Hudson Dave0

The front fenders are NOT the same as 41. The grille on a 41 is only as wide as the hood, whereas the bottom part of the grille on a 46 - 47 is as wide as the bumper. The 46 -47 has a seperate splash apron below the headlights that the grille mounts to. The 41 doesn't have this, and the fenders extend down to the bumper brackets. The 46 - 47 truck front fenders are truck only.0

springspeeddemon is correct on the front fenders. 1941 is one year only front fenders. rear fenders are 1941 to 1947 truck only. if you need any help, I got a truck with very nice original everything, bedwood had no cracks even, if you need any bedwood measurements or anything like that let me know, all I do is mess with hudson pickups, so I got a enough down to get everyone in trouble!0

Thanks! I'll be needing a bunch of questions answered. Know where I can find a 47 l/f fender? Mine has a lot of rot on the mounting crease.0

Joe C on the forum has car fenders on the rear of his truck. I believe he mentioned in a post what he did to make them work. It would take some fabbing for sure, but it looks like Hudson started with car fenders to begin with. I met a guy last week in Pigeon forge (the black primered truck) who said that he had just put car fenders on the front of his truck. I didn't think to ask what was involved, but they looked good on the truck. It;s been done before, so at least there are people to get information from.

Okay, now the big question. Since you all know the difference... can I use car fenders and not install running boards (or fabricate a set) are the basic fenders the same? My r/r fender has has a tear in it that was welded, but it's all there. I am not going to be a stickelr to absolute detail on this, but I do want a respectable representation for the Marque...0

I may be wrong but I think the truck and car front fender is the same except the bottom rear of the fender. The bottom 4 to 6 inches of the pickup fender can be cut off and welded to the car fender. Just the lower inside part.
As for the rears cut the piece off the rear truck fender at the seam and weld it to the car fender. How many will notice that the wheel opening is different?0
