36 Terraplane Question
Can anyone tell me where the ground strap location is for the engine/frame is on a 36 Terraplane? I have the battery ground, but I believe that there is a chassis ground also. When I took this thing a part it either did not have one, or I didn't take note of it. I would like to have it where the factory put it, or I can figure out a place.
My worst fear is to take this to the Nationals (if I ever get this done) and have the ' Ground Strap Inspectors' ask me to leave for non compliance:eek: .

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm pretty sure I know where [at least one of] the ground is. In this case, it was between the rear underside of the transmission and the crossmember - a collection of copper straps, basically (4 or 5, 'bout 1" wide and 18 gauge). They weren't that long, maybe 6" at the most.
I can see about snapping some pics if you'd like. I had just cut the straps when I pulled the engine/trans, and I do still have the section of frame as well. Might take a couple days, though.

Fear not. Our last Ground Strap Inspector was escorted out of town on a rail several Nationals ago, reeking of tar and shedding feathers left and right...0

Jon,
I'm glad to see that they finally ran that rascal out of town, now if I can just get past the" The Original Air in the Tire Gang" I can breath easy!
Timbersmith,
Pictures would be great.0 -
Timbersmith is right. I just hooked one up on the 37 Doodlebug.. Bolts from the lower right bell housing bolt to a hole in the cross member. Original was multiple copper straps or use woven ground strap available at your local tractor supply. Make sure it's bright n'tight.

Well, here's what I've got. The first pic is the front-side of the crossmember mount, the second pic is the back of the crossmember mount, and the third is the mount on the bellhousing.
The straps are a hair less than 1" wide (say 15/16" - 31/32"), and they measure out to about 26 gauge -- or 12 oz copper. I had cut through 7 strips, but it looks like there might have been 8 total. I didn't check length, but I would guesstimate it at 7", max 8" long. The straps mount to the crossmember with what looks like a 1" x 5/16" bolt (1/2" head) and nut, and it mounts to the lowest right-hand-side bolt on the bellhousing.
Ya know, it never crossed my mind to save the ground strap. Only really noticed it when I was pulling the engine and the frame remains were following.

Thanks Timbersmith,
I didn't save mine either, but your pictures will be a big help.0
