No flow, go slow

Well I got my fuel lines plumbed for the most part, I have a leak at the pump to trace down but for the most part I'm running. I still don't have a top end. Up to half throttle is just fine, give her some more and she starves for fuel. I guess the next step is take the carbs apart and find out why I'm not getting fuel to the high speed jets. I'm wondering if I put both carbs together wrong or just one and the other is dogging out with the first. Any suggestions before I delve into the world of feeding the beast? Idle and up to midrange is great so what have I done to restrict the flow to the high speed side?

    Before you go too far, you might check the wire from the points to the distrubutor case. Some of these aftermarket wires had too large a crimp at the case end and they rub on the breaker plate, thus shorting your ignition out when the engine picks up speed.
  • Josh;

    I put in the pertronix ignition to eliminate that type of problem, got the flame thrower coil to make sure the spark is hot enough, this is definately a not enough gas situation, I can only guess it 's the high speed jets until I get the first carb pulled out. I'm hoping when I put them together I didn't put something in wrong but I sure could have, the schematics that came with the kits looked like they had been about the tenth reincarnation of going through a printer.

    For help on Carter WA-1 carbureters, try this site. There should four pages. Click through the misplaced Universal Carbureters page.

  • It only brings up the first page
  • The latest report, both high speed jets are really restricted down to tiny pinholes, so I'll get those openned up. I also either have both floats too high or too much fuel pump pressure. I'll know after openning up the jets whether or not that makes a difference on the high end but I am worried that suddenly I have fuel coming out the top of the carbs and after I shut the car off I still have gas feeding into the manifold.
