I'm curious if anyone has put an engine into their Hudson that doesn't require fuel made from petroleum. Electricity, hydrogen, biodiesel? Hybrid? Why did you go that route? How were the results?

Vintage Truck magazine had an article on a 2 1/2 ton truck running on wood. With that setup you could go cross country with a buck-saw.

Also, during the depression and war, people used dried cow-flops. Again you could go cross country, but you'd have to go slow enough so the cow could keep up. She'd eat free grass along the way, and you'd have milk as a by-product.
  • Alternative Fuels.....How about one of the those 100 miles per gallon carbs the oil companies are sitting on?

Waht I would like to have air bags professionally installed (ha ha ha ha ha............)
  • I VOTE FOR --B.S.--We get it Free on here every now and then!! ---- But all that aside I reckon it's just a matter of what you want to try and spend doing it, with propane or alcohol probably the most availeable as far as parts and ease of installation.
  • what about NO engine Gravity Powered!(hill required):)

It seems to have been forgotten, but Henry Ford was a big advocate of alternative fuels, even to the point of having the company buy tens of thousands of acres to grow corn. The Model A was set up to run on alcohol, kerosene (coal oil) and gasoline with carb adjustments. A properly set up A will run on coal oil no problem...I have personally seen it done. Of course, if you think being out on the freeway in a gasoline-powed A would be scary, the coal oil-fueled version would really put the fear of God into you...

During the last World War, Hudsons were modified to run on self-generated gas, in Sweden.

Sounds like it counts. Would love to see pictures or hear the details. I know people that used to have natural gas farm trucks when I was a kid. I always thought that was cool. They had a gas well on their property so fuel was free. Pretty good incentive for a conversion :)

He might have some good input for you. Actually, I think this will be a topic of growing interest as time goes by.......I've seen everything from Chrysler Hemi's to Lexus V8's put into Hudsons. Why not a good diesel.............? Good Luck, Bob
