Time for a POLL.... number 1....

Okay, thought this one would be a good one to ask the group...

in another thread, someone offered the question as to what extra value a drivemaster set-up would add to a hudson. It got me thinking, I wonder if anyone out there thinks (like me) that twin H adds a bit of value, to a stepdown, since it has a lot of desirability, at least to me anyway, and if you think it does, how much value you think it adds.

So here's your chance to voice you opinion.

Also, check my other poll, about transmission choices... and desirability

    The mystic of Hudson Twin H allows owner and those who view the equipped car to day-dream of times past when this hulk of an automobile ran round and round passing the Fords and GMs of the day. Romantic thoughts of old revisited by old men as well as newly attracted young lads wanting to repeat some of the glory … albeit in daydreams. The addition of the set-up to a Hudson engine automatically sends the viewer into the world founded by marketing and fantasy. As a marketing tool this option allowed owner to ... dream of the legends being created by Hudson at the Roundy round tracks. Value... sure and it is mostly because of the romantic visions that occur when someone opens the hood and sees multiple carbs... Oh your car has the Hudson racing set up?

    Of course… the Twin H added to the horsepower to the engine… etc, etc …and it goes on.... LOL

    The visual impact of the twin carbs and air cleaner assemblys on top of that huge 308 make a statement when you pop the hood, Kinda like a 289 Studebaker with a Paxton supercharger bolted to it. I am sure one of the first questions that a Hornet owner is asked is "does it have TWIN H POWER?" Mine does and I never miss a chance to pop the hood for the curious.
  • yeah, figure in today's dollars, a twin H set-up will run you anywhere from $200-600 easy, depending on how complete, and how nice. Figure you got some money to spend to get it going, after that, if you do it all yourself, bolts, gaskets, etc... will run you around $120 (intake/exhaust gasket, carb kits, replace all bolts, carb stack gaskets, exhaust flange gasket) buy a set of Bill Albright heat shields, around $35, any other parts, needed to make, find, etc... like those clevis thingys, cross over linkage, etc... I think between the cost of buying the set-up, and refurbishing, and getting it running, you can sink 1K into it easily, and that's with doing paint work yourself.

    Ken, Chris, you're both right, when you open that hood, and everyone sees those big red twin H power air cleaners, it draws a crowd. I like going to the gas station, and filling up, I always get one or two people that wonder up to the car, usuall older guys, sometimes older women, and when I lift the hood, It attracts more people yet. I think whatever I got invested into my twin H, was well worth the price, just for the reaction and stares I get with it.
  • I get in my wife's Crossfire roadster and it takes ten years off my looks, "girls look at me" it's a chick magnet. On the other hand, the Hash is a geezer magnet, I stop for gas and some old timer like me walks up and tells me about Hudsons, women my age talk to me like I'm their father and tell me about how they owned a pink Nash when they were teens. Pop the hood and everyone notices the twin H, they ask me if they are hard to tune and I lie and say no, it's not so bad when you know what you're doing.

    I like to go one step further with my Twin H because of the oil bath filters. It makes a good conversation starter, but it has never made me better looking?

  • I once had a guy ask me if my Twin H meant it was a Hybrid....
  • correction hudson kid, my stainless heat shields are only 15.00 per pair, and the decals only ten bucks a pair BILL ALBRIGHT
  • Bill;

    who is our local twin H carb expert? If we don't come up with an answer to my problem soon I am going to want to take the Hash in for an experts opinion.

  • Yep the TWINS are beautifull,always were. Hybred ? Another missconception, My wife told one of her old cronies I was fixing up a 1937 Terraplane and the old gal got all upset, said your not gonna fly in that thing with him are you ? Went home and told her husband I needed a talkin to. He got a big kick out of it.
