I´m searching an automatic transmission HydraMatic H51 for a Hudson Commodore eight . My Hudson was built in 1952. Is there anybody who can help me finding such a transmission or an adress where I can find it?

I´m living in Germany and it seems as in hole europe no hydramatic is available.

Give Gus Souza in Chicago a try. I bought a rebuilt one from him last summer. H51 is a single range Hydra, unless it comes in both versions. Thought the '52's were all dual range. Send a personal message or email (Kasaitrading@yahoo.com) for address and phone. Shipping may be difficult = $$$. Walt-La

Perhaps you could speak to the other German owners of Hudsons -- they might know of the source of some Hudson parts in Germany. Are you acquainted with Doctor Birkhoff, who owns a 1949 Hudson?

I can furnish you with his address if you wish to e-mail me:

Some early 52's are still single range... Hudsondad has two (2!) coupes, both early 52's both with single range hydramatics... The dual range, I guess are more desireable, but in my mind, any hydramatic is desireable..... and to argue it, I offer our recent poll as evidence to support transmission preference... :D

As with all things, if you are going the route of another unit, probably can get what you prefer. I would opt for a dual range.
  • TLHE DUAL RANGE HDRO HAS THE SAME APPEARANCE AND PHYSICAL SIZE AS THE SINGLE RANGE AND IS A MUCH BETTER TRANS AS IT ALLOWS A DOWNSHIFT FROM HIGH TO THIRD,. IT IS ALSO MORE READILY AVAILABLE AS IT WAS USED FROM MID 52 THRU 54. I HAVE BOTH IF INTERESTED, EMAIL ME AT albrighthudsons#msn.com
