Traveling Route 66

My husband and I are starting to throw ideas around for how to spend the summer. Where should we head to? Do we fly or do we drive? At the thought of driving, touring historic route 66 came to mind. I've started looking into some of the attractions. I'm curious if you know of some must-see Hudson stops? I can't seem to find "Radiator Springs" on the map, hehehe.

it has lots of info about route 66. I drove a good portion of this route in 1966 would you believe and it was mostly two and four lane, so with our higher speeds and excellent drivers that obey all rules of the road and never cut anyone off or exceed the speed limit by more than 5mph, I'm glad that it is now a divided highway. Also some of the motels and restaurants were awful back then, of course there are some awful one's now, but these probably don't stay in business very long.

I've driven every existing drivable mile of Route 66 in IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, most of NM and AZ, and the part near the end in Santa Monica, CA. Not all in one shot, but this since 1985. It's worth a trip! Do it! If you are going to spend $4.00/gallon to go somewhere, anyway, why not 66???

It is my dream to drive from Chicago to Santa Monica. I have been on a great deal of the Mother Road and a few of my favorite spots were: Bill's place top the list and is a must stop... Kingman Az. Lubbock, Tx. Flagstaff, Az. And the beach at Santa Monica--with a surf board sticking out the window of the 52....

Sara, I've driven most of the road from California to New Mexico back in the 60's when it was still intact. I used to hit a restaurant in Amboy called the Roadrunner Cafe and I always swore the had roadrunner on the menu, they just called it chicken. A couple of years ago I was in the neighborhood and the Roadrunner is still there but closed down. Sad to see all the little businesses on the road are closed and gone, now it's all eat and get gas places, which when you think of it discribes the Roadrunner. When I get the Hash dependable I'll probably drive it again, at least the parts that are still intact.
