Just a couple of thoughts. Your article uses the date of 1945 and ties this practice to Mormons (properly known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Salt Lake City, Utah). Your article is fiction in that "Mormons" stopped the practice of more than one wife in 1849 as a part of becoming a state. There were no members of the Mormon Church practicing plural marage in 1945, the year after I was born. My grandfather was the 110 child in our family where my great-grandfather had 10 wives. It is accepted that our family is the largest in the church. So, the point of this diatribe is to simply say that as inaccurate as this article is, I doubt the comment on "dad's Hudson" is nothing more than fiction?

I would have put the word "Families" in quotation marks. I searched hard to find something, anything, charming in this article. How many, many times throughout history have women and children suffered privation because of man's fanaticism - religious or otherwise?

I don't know about all of this religion stuff, But I have ridden in a Hudson stepdown many times with 10 other people. There was 9 of us kids total, we used to fight over the warm "hump" in the back floor, especially on cooler fall or spring trips. Nobody ever had to ride on the rear parcel shelf or the trunk that I recall...



In addtion to my parents, there were 9 of us ranging from new to 14. Aside from our full size Ford van, it was about the only car we could all fit into.

When I was a teen, my dalmation, Corkie, used to love to lay in the parcel (or deck) shelf of my '49 S6 Brogham when I went somewhere. As soon as I would open the door, he would bolt in, jump over the front seat back and grab his place in the rear window. Kind of like a living bobble-head. No cops ever bothered me about it, but I'm sure that they would today.

Although we may have had less in the way of material things back then, look at the fond memories people have of times past. Just goes to show you that happiness can come in the form of simple things like your favorite spot in the car or a furry friend that goes along for the ride. I hope that today's kids will be able to look back with such fond memories.

The rear window shelf was my favorate spot in our Hudson when I was little too , We got a new Jet in 1954 . I just found a pic of me at 3 yrs old with my little sis and a step down club coupe in the back ground . If someone wants to post the pic -I'll email it to you .
