29 Hudson Vacuum Tank Needed

Anyone out there have a vacuum tank for a 29 Hudson for sale? Or a top for one that is a Stewart with a 4¼" diameter top with 8 screws ? Thanks Ron

    Ron, the original vacuum tank for the '29 Hudson does not have 8 screws. It has a pressed steel top, leverless valve mechanism, and a glass sediment bowl built-in at the bottom. Sounds to me like you have the '27 and earlier model with the die-cast top. There are new alloy tops available for these.     Just to clarify, the pressed steel top tanks are used from '28 onwards, and have only four screws in the top. there are slight differences between '28 (no glass bowl) , '29, and '30, but any will intercfhange, and the early lever type can be used. Essex tanks are smaller than Hudson. You can use the small tank on a Hudson,but may experience trouble on a long hill due to not enough reserve fuel in the bottom of the tank. Also a "vacuum booster" can be advantageous. These fit on top of the tank, and utilize a venturi system which sucks air continously across the top of the tank, creating a vacuum, which theoretically precludes the possibility of running out of vacuum when pulling hard uphill. Also stops the regular enriching of the idle mixture as the tank replenishes itself.
