That would be my guess. You can see that the copper line from the tank goes to rubber hose down to the fuel pump on the left of the picture.

My '49 sedan has a much smaller vaccum tank mounted on the inside fender also.

My question is why is the battery on the right side of the car. All stepdowns that I have seen have the battery on the left
  • are the air cleaners stainless that have been polished or did he have them chromed?

Don't recall that these air cleaners ever came in stainless. Probably a 'safe bet' to assume that they were chromed.

You know - they have a little duller finish - like nickel, as opposed to chrome - or the chrome is old, discolored.

Why are the air cleaners skewed off to the side? Carb Adjustements during the picture?
  • It looks like the battery changed sides since the 60's. I wonder why.

The Satan of Morimar sold at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance charities aucition, in 2006, for $110,000

When I was editor of the New England Chapter newsletter, The Nor' by NorEast, I did a write-up on the car.

Anybody wants a copy of that article drop me an email - I'll send you a copy of that newsletter. It's rather interesting.
