FYI

Noticed a service that actually 'splits' 4-6 & straight 8 Exhaust Manifolds for anyone interested in the sweet sound of old time duals without going the header route...

Not me, I like the uneven rumble you get from those one ended splasher manifolds.

They emailed me some images of manifolds they have split; look pretty good although the images are quite small. Looks like they can split them however you want, cost is $185.
  • I'm gonna see what they think about my 212 six.

Let us know how you get on, this is useful information to know. I recall Park Ward said that he put an additional outlet on a H8 exhaust manifold many years back and it made a big difference to the power.

A Railton Club member Pat MacDonald according to Ivan Zaremba a while ago was arranging the casting of free-flow exhaust manifolds for the H8. As well Ivan had an aluminium head under development.

    FYI

Apparently they have a preheat and slow cooldown process to completely split the manifolds. Local welding shops probably wont do it anymore.

I think the benefit of a 'split manifold' would be far more improved exhaust flow than if added another outlet without splitting..
  • i would like to introduce myself.i am jim kinnamon andi live in oklahoma.i have 35 years experience in the aircraft engine and airframe rebuilding .i usually build 1 or 2 cars per year.inline engines are my favorite.

through the love of split exhaust i researched methods of successful acheivement.i took the time to study under one of the only exhaust builders left in the country.

my son kraig and i have through this method split many combinations of manifolds.we use the best nickel rods, pre and post heating techniques and have offered some of the smoothest cast welds offered.

    please email green7wood@hotmal.com

also i am a member of the shoeboxford forum and well aquainted with some of your members.thanks splitz1983 aka nkdsnake
  • Fellows, you should see some of the cars this guy builds. It turns out I know of him from our mutual interest in shoebox Fords and he comes with the highest personal references. I intend to use Jim's expertise in creating a split manifold in my Terraplane and I expect only the best.

Of course, I will keep you posted.
  • I think this sounds pretty darn cool. I am looking at getting a Hudson with an eight and I would love to run duals on it.

Should be easy if you get one with a SBC in it.
  • thanks keith, looking forward to making that terraplane hum...

splitz can you give us an example of how much power difference is achieved by splitting a typical 1930's straight 6 exhaust manifold?
  • there are a few discussions on other forums and it is not scientific ,but it is estimated that the less restrictive airflow yeilds approx 8 more ponies to the mix.that coupled with the sound, will give you a phsycological advantage of feeling like it's 100 horsepower more..ha ha

Just got my splasher 8 split manifold back from Jim and Kraig Kinnamon. Nice work.
  • we are glad you are pleased and do apologize for the short wait.we didn't know that business would be brimming, but we are blessed.enjoy and send a sound clip. regards jim debbi and kraig
  • Have you done this to a Jet exhaust manifold? I have a Twin H Jet and would like to add this so I can run duals.
  • draw it up on paper and we'll duplicate your vision.
