Any one have a good source for fabrics for the 1952 Hudson Hornets. I know that reproduction fabric is not available, but any comments of "close?" Since there are a number of acceptable "reproduction vinals" would that be the best way to go?

Have you tried SMS? http://www.smsautofabrics.com/ They do have some dead-on matches for certain Hudsons of the Step-Down era, though the prices are lofty
  • If you want a long lasting, quality material, have you considered leather?

I have considered leather, real and simulated. I have also considered, since the brown "leather face material" (Hudsons words) material is available, doing the car in that. I know that some of the 52's specifically the convertibles did not use the material. I would go that way, but I do like the contrast of the cloth and leather face material. The cars that I have seen that use the leather face material have a two inch pleat rather than the seat button. Hampton Coach has some materials that are rather high price look-alike, close but I was hoping for something a bit more athentic. I sent a note to SMS to see what they offer. Thanks for the tips..

Anyone else have a tip, I will check it out. I have also considered having the original material reproduced. It is possable, but there again--cost; and also digging up 25 people that would also commit to the material near to 14 months in advance.

    Sorry, Steve, I don't!

I guess the best way to go about this search, would be (somehow!) to locate fellow '52 owners who have restored their cars in the last few years, and ask what they used for fabric. (Though how you do that, is beyond me. One way might be to scan the H-E-T roster and check each 1952 listing; where you see a "condition 1" or "2", you have the possibility of a restoration!)

Somewhere there was a link for 53 material, and we discussed it. Someone makes it, in an almost exact pattern, the color is a little different.
