Is there interest...

Here is what I am thinking....

I don't know if it is easy to do, but for all the pictures I take over the course of a year, I was thinking of making a calendar for 2009, featuring hudsons. A 12 month calendar, featuring hudsons that I found interesting, that I took pictures of over the last year. I think there are web services that offer this easy to assemble, and etc... All I got to do is supply the pictures, and maybe a blurb about each car, owner, etc....

So, I kinda want to ask, via, a guess what? POLL, if anyone is interested in this. I would like to shoot stuff locally, so I apologize, west coast guys, but anyway, if you are interested, please take advantage of the poll, see where we get, in terms of interest.

If interest is good enough, I will be more than glad to do more than one calendar, I wold be glad to do a pre stepdown, and a stepdown calendar. It seems there are interest in both groups.

As far as cost, I don't know what these run, but I imagine that I can get these small run for around $10-15 a calendar, if I get enough interest.

Here is what I would need from each of you.

If you got a car, let me know, where it may be, if you want to see it in a calendar. I will likely be at Doc's meet, and if there are any club functions within around 100 miles, give or take of 17522 zip code, I would be glad to travel. I would like to get (for stepdowns, anyway) unusual cars, rare cars, good colors, etc... let me know.

Hudsondad, your wasp coupe needs to have the rear skirts on before I would include it... :p

Oh, if your car is not perfect, like mine, don't let that discourage you. If you have any issues, if the car is what would serve the calendar best, let me know. I can (or have resources that can) photoshop misc details if need be. an example would be a bumper guard that is bad, or a wavy piece of trim, etc... maybe a last minute scratch, or something, we can fix that, no problem.

Obviously, this idea was presented on the forum previously, but I think that we have all established a love/hate relationship with me (okay, maybe some of you like me more than other...) I'm not out to scam, etc... I just want to do something with all the damn pictures.

So go ahead, voice your thoughts!

Oh, I imagine this should be perhaps in discussion, Jon, if you see fit to move it, please accept my apology, if you feel it is better served there.

Thanks for your time!

Rick

One more thing, if you like this idea, how I would do it, is get the pictures together, find out all the information, take orders, and submit the order for the exact amount of calendars. no extras, etc... just those that want one. I would find out the absolute cost per, before anything is finalized.

  • You should add an entry for a mixed Hudson calendar with cars from all years. That I would go for. I love all Hudsons.
  • you can vote more than once....

Hey, I ran numbers, it looks like for 25 color (13 images) it would be right around $213, so it come under $10 a calendar, not including a few wierd fees they got on the site I visited.

And that's with a 21 day turnaround, and gloss carstock.
  • I said pre-stepdown, because next year is Hudson's 100th anniversary, and the 80th anniversary of their most successful year, 1929.

I thought you might have said "Jet" I forgot, when I did this....

sorry all you jet owners.... let me know, I could make that happen as well.

Funny thing, in another life I collect (and still do) Chevrolets. A gentleman from our national club (VCCA) started an All Chevrolet Calendar antiques only a few years back. Good quality, large nice photos. This past year I sent in some photos of my 60 El Camino. I am now, offically a calendar pin-up. I've got to say, I am real big on this idea. He charges $10.00 each (I bought a dozen) and I have given most of my friends a copy. I think this is a great idea, and would even be a good fund raiser for a local chapter.:p
  • I am all for it! Just put a mixture of Hudson's in it.

  • I voted Stepdown and Hash but a mixed calendar would work. Why not accept pictures from west coast drivers? If the quality is good use them, if not then you have enough pictures anyway. Kind of late for an 08 calendar though, but if you had them by next month I would buy one anyway, I always need a good calendar with pictures I like.

  • You do not have the obvious choice up there - a calendar featuring ALL years - you could put two cars per month on it and have 24 cars covered. So, since this is not a choice in your poll, there is not a vote from me.

www.cafepress.com is where a couple of clubs I belong to, got their calendars sourced, and the calendars run $24.00 each. All of the pics were provided by the clubs of members' cars.

put in one pre 1942 commercial hudson and I'll buy a few. I'd do all years from day 1, and a good representation of ALL the vehicles built by hudson motorcompany. great idea!! I have actually looked for a hudson calander for the shop, could not find one.

I voted stepdown, but would really prefer all types in one calendar, for variety. That would also increase the appeal to all groups, I think, resulting in more sales, economies of scale, etc. etc. Great idea, HK, if you "run with it" sign me up to buy one. I would also get my newspaper editor son to get some really spiffy photos of mine, and submit, for the "something different" department.

I agree that it would be preferable to cover the entire age-range of cars built by Hudson.

    Geoff.
  • I voted for stepdown, but wouldn't have a problem with an all years calendar. What ever you do, you can always follow 2010 up with another theme. I would think that Lews 52 C-8 Conv has to be on it! Maybe you need to go to the national this year in Mass(?) to get the best or favorites. Maybe a poll to vote on the favorites, but that could also be like judging and offend some. If you did a different theme each year, you may narrow the interest. If you mix it up with quality cars from all years, you probably have the best chance for success from all. I'd still prefer an all stepdown, but all years would reach more folks. I guess I'm rambling.....................

as some will tell you on this board, it's always about ME!!!! I actually want to do this to showcase MY photography. plain and simple. I know it sounds dumb, but I take all these pictures, I want to use them.

I can make the calendar happen mid year, whatever, just prefer to look ahead for the future.

I think I might be doing a couple of versions of this, though. Seems it is fairly popular of an idea.

Yeah, you guys got me thinking about this one. BTW, all you guys that are in other countries, I'll make sure if you want one, it will get to you all.

I guess I can do several versions, one of each, one of mixed, etc... Lew's Car is one I would be interested in using. I just need to shoot it with trim, and chrome all on.

As far as voting what goes in the calendar, NO poll on that. I get to decide. That's where someone like 7XPacemaker's coupe ends up on the cover, or at least the month of july, something like that. :D

Guess Paulargetype is out, I was hoping he would be enthused about this, because I would have liked to use his convertible, but hey, no big deal. I think it would have been good for the stepdown calendar. Kinda bummed. Life goes on.

you got that. Paypal is definitely going to be a "pal" on this whole deal, for sure.

I looked at the calendar, nice job, I'm going for something a little different. But one thing I really liked is how the club events are marked in the calendar.

Two years ago Hemmings used my brothers 1939 hudson 112 Coupe on their Independents Calender. I believe his car was August

Personally I would prefer a step down calender Because I only own step downs now. I have to say that I have always bought any calendar that I have found that has any year Hudson because of my love for Hudsons

If someone wants to do a calendar with Hudsons only count me in. I will buy one. I have been collecting any car calendars for over 30 years with the intension of wall papering a wall in my future "I hope" 6 car garage.

I always tell everyone that my retirement home will consist of a 6 car garage, with a bedroom. kitchen, bathroom and den. My wife has other ideas, but she does include the 6 car garage. She wants to be able to park per car inside a garage. I have to admit she must really love me to let her car be parked outside for over 32 years while our two car garage houses my Hudsons

I was gonna say, maybe you should tell her that your retirement plans also might not include her.. (shhhh.....)

But hey, if she was nice enough to give up garage space, she can't be all that bad!

I Voted For All Three, You Put One Together I'll Buy One .do A 18 Month One If You Want:) John Drivergo2
  • Written vote here.................

I'd buy one or two regardless of era.

I like to see a representation of entire HET Line.
  • Here is likely what we will end up with....

    1) Calendar of Stepdowns

    2) Calendar of pre- Stepdowns

    3) Calendar of Mixed cars of HET. I will try to include at least one pickup, a jet, a hash, and a nice mix of pre and post WWII.

    4) A convertible Calendar all HET mixed years.

I think that covers the ballot pretty well. Sorry HASH guys, I wish I could make it happen, but it doesn't seem there is enough interest.

So how do these choices sound?

I will iron out the details, get this in motion probably shortly after Doc's meet.

What I need, is anyone that wishes to have their car considered, let me know.

If you got a car that you want me to shoot, drop me an e-mail. Unless something odd happens, me and hudsondad will be at Doc's meet on Sunday, and I will be glad to shoot your car, in a nice setting, and whatever it takes.

Also, if you live remotely close, I will travel, to meet up. 100 miles or so from 17522 zip code.

I think I will also take picture submissions, I will gladly credit any photo's used, I need large files, taken with at least a 5 megapixel digital camera, 8 preferred, but 5 will work.

I prefer a non cluttered background, preferrably a nice setting, and I would like to have anything submitted to be a front 3/4 view, meaning, the closest point would be the headlight an you have a full view of the front end, and side. File format, TIFF files, or jpg, either will work. I also ant the actual car to be at least half of the composition, meaning by area, the car needs to be about 50% of the picture, but none of these are hard fast rules.

Seasonal backrounds would be nice, fall, spring, summer, winter, all good.

If you got a picture of your car, you like, and want to see what I think, I will gladly consider it.

No other objects in the picture, if you could, no people, pets, brand X cars....

just send them to me, if you wish, see what we get....

    HETckrantz3@msn.com

    remove the HET
  • Also, how I want to set this up, is when I have the design, and pictures chosen, I will prepare the files, upload them, and start taking orders. I will find out the total, then start collecting payment, preferrable via paypal, money order, personal check, or cash. I will give a basic estimate of shipping, and figure out where we need to be, so this is a break even effort.

Hope this sounds fair to everyone.

Ted, we'll send you one of each, for good measure. Maybe you'll consider parting with that El Camino, and taking the hudson plunge!!!

If you really have some extra time, I think pictures of abanonded HET cars would make a nice calender, kinda like your avatar. There must be a ton of good pictures of this type (fields, barns, junk yards etc).

Either way, sign me up for a stepdown and pre-stepdown calender.
