Just in case you guys ignore the main forum...

I talked with Mr. Pridemore today, very knowledgeable fellow and great to talk with. He explained a lot about the background work done to come up with the parts and machining work to build the hubs.

The biggest thing to remember is Mr. Pridemore provides the hardest part of the whole endeavor at a reasonable price, the hubs, brackets and parts list.

This isn't a bolt on Baer brake kit for a 1970 Chevelle - its a partial kit to retro-fit your 50+ year old Orphaned Hudson car to modern, easily replaceable parts ~ so expect to do a little extra work if needed.

Keep in mind when doing this brake upgrade it's going to take some more parts and some legwork, patience, maybe a little fitting, to put it all together.

He's putting an order together...

  • When I was at the 05 nats in Reno, Richard came up and talked to several of us about his disc conversion. He had the parts with him and showed them to us and explained was was involved to install the conversion on a stepdown. He really did his homework. It's a ver nice setup and uses readily available parts. The BIG plus is that it's a bolt on disc brake system and can be converted back at any time if anyone wanted to.

If you really want those brakes to work great put a swinging power brake M/C on it. WOW! Not very reversable though.. It's a none way street, but heck my old Super Six four door isn't exactly an historical masterpiece either. So there isn't any history lost. If someone wants to see an original car, there are a bunch of nice original 49 Supers around .
  • won't a '54 power brake/ swing pedal setup bolt right into earlier stepdowns?

Yes the 54 should bolt into an earlier stepdown . Of course it's set up for a single piston MC. If the Pridemore disc set up is used, you will be switching to a dual MC . Maybe a dual MC could be adapted to the 54 assembly ?.. Don't know..Would save a lot of work..maybe...?
