Hey there fellas, has anyone tried to put a rear end out of an 80's mercury/ford into a 47 hudson? Wondering if the backspacing is the same... Thanks!

    FYI

There are a few Threads on possible rear ends in the Forum this week. I Like Ford 9" which come in Hudson's 4.5 Bolt Circle in many widths and Ratio's. The Ford 8.8 is good alternative. Suggest reading the other Rear End Threads, measure your width from back plate to back plate and/or Drum to Drum, then walk the Salvage Yard. Ford Yokes fit Hudson Ujoints and just spring pads need moved & re welded.

Aaron, I've seen quite a few posts over recent years indicating the '70s Granada rear axle is a good fit for the pre-stepdowns. I don't know the Ford axles enough to know whether that's a 9" or 10" rear end. For the same axle but with disc brakes, look for a Lincoln Versailles, the Lincoln version of the Granada.
  • The Granada / Versailles is a 9".

I used a Ford 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer in my 49 Hudson, complete with disc brakes. It fit beautifully. I don't know if a 48 on up rear is a different width than a 47.

Measure between backing plates, and take that measurement with you to a junkyard. Mustang, Explorer, Ranger rears are going to be narrower than fullsixe cars like the Crown Vic, Grand marquis, and lincolns...
