1936 Terraplane wheels pinstriping
Anyone out there know if the 1936
Terraplane had pinstriping on the wheels? I know most cars of that era did I just haven't seen enough Terraplanes up close to know.
Also I'm thinking of reproducing a small quantity (3 or 4) grills in Stainless. It's a labor of love, the reason being that I like the look of stainless it's very close to chrome and it never rusts, also doesn't have the brash ragged edges chrome shops can't polish between the perforated holes reflecting unevenly. In stainless the unpolished areas are not noticed. I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'm thinking of reproducing the grill in a cad program and having them cut out with either laser or waterjet.
I thought about perforating them but the cost is prohibitive. Any feedback appreciated. Here is a photo of some metalwork I did on my 36 REO Speedwagon pickup.I Reproduced the hubcaps and stamped out the hemi plug covers, the hemi was in the truck when I bought it 30 years ago.

I'd be willing to bet they did have pinstriping on the wheels, and the most authentic way to reproduce it would be to contact some other '36 owners (the H-E-T roster can help you do this) until you find one who's pretty sure his striping is original. Then you could get a pattern from his wheels.0

The '36 Terraplane had a single pinstripe around the rim.0

'36 Hudsons had an apparently optional "star" pattern trim scheme on the wheels, which had a stripe of about 3/16' outlining the star pattern. One of the wheels on my '36H had this pattern on it. Most Terraplanes in the Butler book are shown without this trim, but one does show it. Here's the best scan I could get of it, as the photos are rather small. The color was a light ivory or creamy beige, same as the pinstripes along the upper body belt molding.0

I've got a '36H8 with the original wheels including the original pinstriping (somewhat weathered of course). Let me know if you need an image which I can include a scale rule on for dimensioning.0

I would like to see a photo of your wheel if it's not too much hassel, a picture is worth a thousand words.
