This is a GREAT meet put together by past HET president John Clement and his wife Jeanne.... While Hudsons are one of the HERD at this meet it is a great gathering in a prime setting at a reasonable cost....

February 15-17, 2008-Waxahachie, Texas
The North Texas Chapter of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club invites you to join us for our Ninth Annual Sweethearts and Orphans Meet. We’re hoping to have a bright and beautiful Texas winter weekend for our meet this year, but we promise to give you a warm Texas welcome regardless of the temperature! We always have a great time whatever the weather, so shake off those winter blahs, fire up your favorite orphan car, and come join us! Once again, we’ll gather in historic Waxahachie, Texas, to create new friendships, to renew old ones, and to honor our Significant Others during the Valentine season!
The reason we have this meet is to bring together the owners of all kinds of "orphan cars†– those wonderful automobiles that have disappeared from the American scene – including the great Independents like Hudson, Studebaker, Kaiser-Frazer, Packard, Nash, Willys, Crosley, Graham, Essex, and Terraplane, plus LaSalle*, Edsel*, DeSoto*, and other “orphansâ€. More recent “orphans†include AMC, Plymouth* and Oldsmobile*.
*While these marques are not technically orphans in the strictest sense, they are defunct marques that played a significant role in U.S. automotive history and are generally eligible for orphan shows. We’d rather be inclusive than exclusive!
These marques are more than welcome at our meet, but to retain the “vintage flavor†of the meet we’re requesting participation of pre-1984 vehicles (except for some bona fide classics).
Sweethearts and Orphans is a non-judging meet. S&O meets aren’t about competition. We just want to enjoy our unique and beautiful cars and foster friendship among orphan car owners in a fun and relaxed setting. There will be Peoples' Choice (by decade) and Sweethearts’ Choice awards, but good friends are the real prizes you win at this meet.
The Registration Desk will be open at the Host Hotel from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday, February 15. On Friday afternoon, we’ll have some fun with some “car games†in the hotel parking lot. On Friday evening, you can register, renew old friendships, and do some tire-kicking at the hotel or spend time exploring Waxahachie and nearby Ennis. Coffee and other refreshments will be served in our hospitality room at the Sleep Inn on Friday evening. Feel free to bring snacks to share if you like.
On Saturday, Feb 17, the Registration Desk will be open downtown from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Ellis County Museum at 201 S. College, on the SE corner of Courthouse Square.
The cars will be on display from 9:00 AM until 3:30 PM on Waxahachie’s Courthouse Square, surrounding the historic Ellis County Courthouse, considered by many to be the most beautiful in Texas. Parking space has also been reserved for non-orphan vintage cars on one side of the square. Let’s show them LOTS of great orphans -- and fill up the entire square!!! On Saturday evening, we will have a special Valentine’s Day event. We’re still finalizing that activity, but expect more news to come about that before the meet.
The Awards Presentation will occur at the Sleep Inn at 9:00 AM on Sunday, February 18. The Meet will end by 10:30 AM, so you can get an early start home.
Please note that our Host Hotel for the meet will be the beautiful, brand new Sleep Inn at 1701 US Hwy 77 North, Waxahachie, TX, just a few blocks north of our previous hotel facility.
We’ve actually kept or improved the great rates that we’ve had the past three years – king or double rooms at $74.99 or treat yourself to a suite for only $89.99!
The room rate includes an “extended†continental breakfast and each room has a refrigerator, microwave oven, coffeemaker, hair dryer, and wall-mounted 32†HD TV! The hotel is a non-smoking facility, but the Holiday Inn Express just to the south has smoking rooms available. The Sleep Inn has ample parking for the cars and a large, well-protected area for car trailers. There are many restaurants and shopping areas nearby. You must call the Hotel number, (972) 938-1600, and tell them you’re coming for the Sweethearts and Orphans Meet to get the discounted rate. Rooms will fill up fast, so make your reservations ASAP!
Once again, we’ll have a 50/50 Raffle at the Meet. If you’re not familiar with this type of raffle, the holder of the winning ticket gets 50% of the money collected from raffle ticket purchases. The remaining 50% of the pot is donated to the American Heart Association. You can’t win if you’re not in!!!
