alternator question

Thanks for all the help you've provided. I have another question, or two questions. First is there a supplier for an alternator bracket to convert a 6 volt system to a 12 v.

Second: are there any two groove pulleys out there anywhere?

    FYI

I have made Alternator brackets different ways, One is to simply weld a Tab forward on the generator bracket. I found a wide pullys at swap meets to use wide Alt belt. Local rebuilders may have a wide pully from Implement equipment. Check the HET Suppliers for a double pully..

PS: I have noticed detailed 6 to 12V conversion schematics on the HET Links 'Stepdown Technical pages' covering the whole process including bracket dimensions & builder Tips
  • I turned the gen. bracket around and cut off part of the alt. mounting tab, then used shims to align the pulleys.

Large width small diameter pulleys maybe found at Model A Ford parts sources. Many Model A's have been converted to alternators and a small diameter helps to allow charging at a slower engine speed. Happy hunting.

  • You can use the pulley off your original generater. You do not need a smaller pulley IF you use a 2 wire alt. as the alt. starts putting out voltage immeditly, Its very simple that way.
