Oil filtering on early 28-29 super six

It recently occured to my that there is no external oil filter on my engine. Or else I don't know where it's hiding. So my question is.Does anyone know how or where the oil is filtered?

    The only filter you probably have is a bit of fine gauze/mesh in the sump where the oil pick up is. Do a search on this site for previous threads re oil filters. After markets ones were available but are not highly thought of. Ive a 1937 Terra that doesnt have a filter. I found a 1936 sump once where someone had replaced the mesh. It was so coarse you could poke a bic biro thru it.

    I once saw a early 20s Hudson that had been converted to 12v. The owner had a pipe coming out of the sump into a 12v pump that was pumping the oil thru a modern oil filter then up to the front of the motor where the original oil pump was. Clever, but not for me. Others will share their thoughts. Regards, Barry
  • im not familiar with the 28-9 but i thought of just replumbing the lines on the oil pump through a remote oil filter adapter on my 31. its so old and kind of tired i probably wont even bother. should work fine though.

    These engines did many thousands of miles on gravel roads, earlier on wihtout showing signs of wear due to dirty or gritty oil. .The only filter they need is an air filter to keep dust out of the cylinders. How many miles, realisticially, are you gong to do? I have done half a million in my '28 Essex, and oil filtering has never been a problem.

  • Hi;

    I have a 29 sedan that has a cartridge type filter on it.It is plumbed in at the oil pump with the return going into the top cap on the pump.

    I didn't like the idea of a filter in this system,with only 3lbs.oil pressure.i posted a question on this a while ago.I feel as Geoff, the filter is not necessary+the restriction on such low oil pressure would be too much.

    As soon as i get a new cap for the pump i will remove the filter.

    I plan on dropping the pan and cleaning it out at that time.

    just my opinion Gary
