Help, Finding Last Needed Parts Please
Guys, I knew when I took on the builds of these two 1942 Hudsons, finding parts might be tough. Thank goodness both cars were pretty much complete and I've actually come up with many pieces I did need. Thanks to folks like Bill A, and many other of the Hudson parts guys! But I'm having a bear of a time with these last few pieces. Can anybody help me with the chromed trim pieces below the headlight rings? They are about 3-4 inches tall and are shown in both pictures below with the red paint on them. These were found only on the 1942 Commodore Eights. They are also different left side to right side. The 1942 C6's and down used the later tear-drop shaped headlight rings (same as all 1946 and 1947's) and did not have these pieces I need. All I have is one side (can't remember which) and it is rusted too thin to replate.
Here's an interesting sidenote I learned. Did you know that the round style headlight rings on the 1942 Commodore Eights (like shown below) are the same as used on 1948-? Stepdowns with the exception of the notch cut into them to clear these pieces I am searching for? Hudson must have figured they had these molds already from before the war that were practically unused and decided they looked good on the new stepdown designs. That's my guess anyway. I learned this after buying a box of headlight rings that were identical to mine. I then noticed that they did not have the notches cut into them and later was told by another Hudson enthusiast that they were for stepdowns.
The next parts I really need could be easier as they are the same as 1946-1947. For my four door sedan, I need the narrow stainless belt line trim pieces that run just above the wider stainless belt line trim pieces. I have some on the doors that could be straightened to use but the ones I am totally missing are both sides of the hood, both sides of the cowl (between hood and front doors), and the two pieces (RH/LH) that wrap around the back of the top (above the decklid and below the rear windows. These trim pieces can be seen in both of the photos as well, with the exception of the rear ones around the back of the top.
Any help on these items would be GREATLY appreciated and I do have a few spare pieces I've picked up, so if I could help anyone else would be glad to do so. Of course the beautiful cars in the photos are not mine, just borrowed them to illustrate the items I am trying to describe.
Also, I have the remains of a Drive Master unit, transmission, and a splasher six that needs a good home. I'm going with the straight Eights!

Thanks I saw it but that street rod is not a '42, it's actually a '41. A '42 has the same body as a '46-'47 with slight differences in the trim and grille.0 -
Check with the Falks in Nebraska. Ron and Mel are in the HET roster. At one time Dean Seafus; now deceased had a 42 C8 Convertible that regularly attended all NE Hudson meets. He actually had a 46 front end on the car for years as the vehicle had been wrecked during the war years and stored. During the 70s Dean restored the cars front to 42 C8 Specs... Good Luck0

Bill,
Those hood lengths are 43 inches. I'm pretty sure they are squared off.

Hey Dave,
When I first saw that pic of the '42 I had to look twice as I thought it was my Two Door Brougham, same colour, identical motor car only a sedan.0 -
Huddy 42, I too thought it was yours when I first saw the pic, then realized it was a sedan. I do have pic of your car saved. Don't know who owns it, SuperDave. Maybe someone here will recognize it.
Huddy, do you know of anyone with the Commodore Eight 'under-the-headlight' pieces down there? Seems those are gonna be the most difficult of all.0 -

Les,
When i saw that car on ebay, I immediatly fell in love with it (for obvious reasons.) I saved the complete set of pictures including the interior shots. It sure would make a nice His and Her's collection...
If you wish , I will forward them to you.

Thanks Dave would appreciate that very much if you could forward them to me.Regarding the his & hers ,yes they would be a perfect pair, but, if I even entertained the idea I would end up in the divorce court. LOL.
Rarerodder, sorry can not help with those strips as we NEVER got any 1942 Hudson's here Down Under, I imported mine from the USA in 1989, so is the only one here, good luck in your chase.0 -
Thanks Dave, got the pics OK, the Commodore is a bit more plush inside than the Super Six, Have saved them in my album, thanks again Dave.

Rick, I have a 47 C6 that might have some of that thin stainless. Interesting thing , some of those pieces that go under the headlights will be brass (chrome plated) and some will be stamped. All those parts are out there somewhere , always fun to search the meets looking for that stuff. Can you send me some photos of your cars? Last I had seen you only had the Coupe and you showed me the photos quite a few years ago.0
