Splasher oil filter

I'm thinking of installing an early Hudson oil filter on a splasher 8. Has anyone out there had any good or bad experiences with filters on these engines?

  • With 3Ibs of oil pressure you are only getting slight filtering but Hudson sold them for the splasher eight so hey who am I to say. Best oil filter is to change your oil often and drop the pan once in a while and clean it out. But if you change the oil often you will be doing fine.

We've been through all this several times before, but for the record, you can only filter half the oil, unless you fit two filters, which can only be fitted to the out put side of the pump. And if you do fit a filter, it is essential that you fill the filter fully before starting the engine, otherwise you will likely damage the bearings while the filter fills up. My advice is the same as above, change the oil regularly, and leave well alone. Iv'e done many hundreds of thousands of miles in splash-fed Hudson and Essex, and never had what could be called a dirty oil problem. YOur best insurance against wear is to fit a good air filter.
