I can remember a lot of 'Modified' brand X Coupes in this Region that had Hornet Power to win every Fri & Sat night... What goes around comes around... Maybe.... Its my idea of powering a Hot Rod!!
With the resurgence in Flathead popularity in the Country lately..Why not build the 'King of the Flatheads" for your Hot Rod A lot of modern enhancement Parts available.....

Old Weekend Racing Fever at local Speedways. To name a few......
Blanket Hill, Tri City, Mercer, Eriez, Coon Road, Kuhl Rd, Kittaning, Stateline, Sharon, Pittsburgh, Painsville, etc.... 'every Area' had Hornet 6 Powered Cpes for many yrs after Hudson merged....Can you remember a few....0 -
I've seriously considered putting a 308 in that '48 Ford sedan body I have and rod it. Wouldn't THAT screw with folks at shows, especially an NSRA event? Better yet, take it to the HET Nationals!:eek: I'd have to break out the defibrillator at both events!0

In all seriousness;
Hornet 6's powered many front running modified coupes during the 60's & 70's. They milled the numbers off the heads from the competitors. The fastest motors ran 3 Stromburg 97's with a few having 6 single carbs. They ran direct drive thru a Trk rear end with huge slicks..
Currently and much to my suprise, more on-lookers crowd around my Hornet powered Terraplane than my Chevy powered Hudson Truck, much to the envy of my friends that simply bought hi-dollar turn key Rods.....Especially if has Twin H, Duals, etc.
I think the HET Nats have relaxed their stanze on modified cars a lot lately...
Could be people are beginning to ho-hum the same-o thing Chevy/Ford installs, and/or perhaps because the nationwide Flat head re-surgence in interest0 -
Evidently, the Hudson round track knowledge wasn't just northeastern knowledge.
A few years ago, before I actually owned a Hudson, I found the graveyard of local modified coupes from the 60's and 70's that competed in the middle TN area.
The Twin-H's were unmistakeable. Ford, Chevy, whatever - had Hudson under the hood and between the welded bars. None of the cars or engines were restorable. The acid soils around here, as well as the unprotected ravages of rain and freezing in the engines, had left nothing but ruins. Glorious ruins. The bodies were so rusted, you could push your finger through them with little effort. But it was obvious what engine they prefered.
I need to go back with a camera, if they are still there.
I know exactly what Ol' Racer is saying about the crowds. Nothing special about my Hudsons, except what's under the hood. Something folks haven't seen in a long time, if at all.
That day walking through all those old warriors at rest, kinda made my mind up on what would power my Hudson if I ever had one. I was right, they had testicular fortitude.
I'm glad you found your way here Ol' Racer, I like reading your posts and seeing your Hudson stuff.

Thank you, I am really glad to find so many other People interested in modifying Hudsons in one way or another to help keep Hudson's performance legacy prevelent in so many different areas....From drag racing to vintage road racing, and attempts to break different Salt Flat Records.
Really phenominal for a 6 cyl car last manufactured over 50 yrs ago....Chuck0 -
Ol racer to put a Hornet into a Terraplane, what is the weight difference and will the power train inlcuding gearbox fit without having to mess with the X-member? That would make the Terraplane fly along.0

I have a shop that does decals for me at a reasonable price. If I can get a good solid copy of the print I can have it made. I expect that if we printed them in a three inch decal they would sell for less than 5 bucks each.
Let me know if there is an interest,...

I put a Hornet with Turbo 350 Trans in my '37 Terraplane by sliding back to the X. (I didnt trim the X),The firewall would need trimmed the width of the head. (However my firewall was already trimmed with a removable cover installed for the '41 Distributor that sets at the back of the Head on 212 motor's)
I cut a couple diagonal pcs in front (under the radiator), trimmed out crossmember(then Dbl plated) to set the damper down in low then re-drilled the radiator mounts more forward. I slid the radiator forward (into the grill Shell) and use a pr of front mounted electric Fans. Its shoe horned in good & low with nice set-back & handles nice.
If have an 8Cyl Car Hornet bolts-in . I took it on as a challenge and was not that difficult ..
The 3X5 motor & trans are extremly heavy so the Hornet with aluminum head & Trans are probably equal in weight. However, I made 1/4" replacement main leafs only because orginal 3/16 were bent. I ended up having to bend the springs down for a lower rake angle..
The gas pedal was already changed to a 'cable' set-up from newer car0 -

Are you referring to copying the Back to the 50's or the vintage Isky decal, or both if you can get a good copy.

Ol Racer, I would like to have decals of each, the Isky and the Lost in the 50's decal. I'm not a big decal guy but I would proudly display both if someone makes them for sale.

i heard there was dirt track racer in eastern nebraska running a 32 roadster with a hudson moter into the late 1990's and winning now and then---bob0

Howard Suggs, I think that is his name, Regularly runs his Hudson stepdown on the vintage stock car circuit in North and South Carolina. Hudzilla can correct me if I'm wrong.
