The 10 Second Hudson is no more!
Long live the 9 second Hudson!!!:D Sat at Silver Dollar dragway Dads 49 ran 9.96 @ 134mph in the quarter. We Had a few shifter issues but other than that the car ran perfect. 3 passes all 9.98 or better! I was only able to get video of one pass, It was the only pass we had any problems but it was still and 10.15 with only 2 gears. I will try and post the video and a link later.
Ok heres the video it was made on a regular digital camera so forgive the quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vtKkGKdSRQ

What are you running in your Dads Hudson?

Harry
The car is running a Mopar wedge motor approx. 496 cubic inches. Its a relatively mild setup for the engine no nitrous or any of that stuff.0 -

My first one that I recently purchased, my backup, is soaking now (not sure which gear it is);
tomorrow I go get the 2nd one from a friend, a 1.76 geared w/30K miles-this will be the primary one to run in the Super Jet, & it will have the trans-brake too. So get those "hot" Hudsons ready for 1/4-miles runs. hehe
Dads car runs a 727 3-speed, on this particular run the shifter cable was a little out of adjustment and it went from low to high skipping second all together.0 -
That is awesome to see a Hudson go that fast!0
-
Good job. Get it down to 9.90 and get certified for super gas. That's a fun class to run.

You can make any hudson go fast but my hats off to Randy Maas,
Russell Maas. Dany Spring and Rudy Bennett They make the true hudson
go fast, They put a lot of knowledge into having the original powerplant.
go fast and get burned duncan0 -
i like it, mopar power and its fast. so just how fast is this hudson powered hotrod?0

Randy,help me out here. I think that would be FRED HENTHORN with his Hudson powered Dragster at 10.20 ?
Thanks Rudy0 -
Hi Rudy,
Actually Fred's dragster has slowed down to 10:20's with over 300 passes on the same motor (stock stroke). Its tired. He has run in the 9:80's. Talked to him twice last week. He is ready to put a stroker in the car. Stay tuned.0 -
Thanks Randy. Please let me know when and where he will be running it this year,we may be able to get the M.S.D. Photo. man out there to get some good pictures of his Runs for there Super MSD Mag. and maby some others. Pal Rudy0

Hi Rudy Thanks for the seals .I used the ones for the distrubuter
they fit awsome. Am ready to put gas in tank and blead brakes.
I am over at my nephews getting the upolstery underway
Thanks again duncan0 -
Duncan, We found a 308 engine block that had the O-Ring hole about .010 deeper than the others that we tested for the seal fit -up. We had to add a .010 shim gasket to keep the oil from Seeping at that point.
Let me know if it leaks and i will send you some Shim-Gaskets to go between the Dist and the D-Ring seal.

Thanks Rudy
Not trying to take anything away from the Mopar powered step-down coupe , its a really impressive car , but am curious to hear more about the Hudson powered race cars .0 -

My first Powerglide that I recently purchased, my backup, is soaking (not sure which gear ratio it is);
Tomorrow I go get the 2nd Powerglide from a friend, a 1.76 geared w/30K miles-this will be the primary one to run in the Super Jet, & it will have the trans-brake too.
I suspect if you go with a Powerglide tranny (very light) AND Drag Radials, that'll bump it into the eight's.
So get those "hot" Hudsons ready to race, 1/4 mile @ a time!
hehe
GO HUDSONs GO !!!
=^..^=
ahh the 'glides are over rated, really only beneficial in a light weight car.0 -
Hi Rudy You sent me 2 shim gaskets and 2 d ring seals. Do I need any more shim gaskets . Just have to wait and see. duncan0

Duncan if it does not seep oil then no Shim-Gasket, add 2 if it does seep.
Thanks so much Rudy0 -

And now back to the original thread
I can't play the youtube on my computer as it doesn't like the Adobe player...anyway...
Q. Are you running TO's or in a particular sport or class?
Q. Does going below 10 in the 1/4 mile require the addition of a parachute in the class you are racing?
BTW - Sub 10 @ 134 is pretty freakin impressive no matter what kind of car you're running - it's got to be even better in a Hudson instead of a Camaro (no offense meant to Camaro Lovers...its a turn of phrase :rolleyes:)0 -
Dan;
the video is cool if for no other reason than to see that car come screaming by. You can hear it coming before you see it so when the car comes into view and it isn't what you are expecting to see.

Jody,
I think your car is on "Pinks All Outtakes" . I remember you saying you had taken it to Bristol to try and get on "Pinks All Out".
My Dad told me about a Hudson on the "All Outtakes" show, which I missed but will try to catch tonight, March 2nd, at 11:00pm central.

harcoequip,
Is that a 440 Source 496 in that Hudson? I have a 512 B motor stroker kit in my '58 Plymouth. My pic is on the 440Source.com website down a little from yours. Small world, huh?0
