54 power steering info

On my ongoing rebuild of my 54 Hollywood Hornet I'm to the power steering. I've started to try finding parts, seals mainly for the Vicker P/S pump and the seal for the ram. My ram is bent and if there was a replacement ram or any info someone who has done this before can give me. I thank you. Any info would be helpful. I can have the ram cut off the control valve and a new one fabricated but that's expensive. Any helpful info or location of parts will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Doug

Your cylinder and valve can be remanufactured by Lares Corp. PH 800-334-5749. They will install a new ram and make it like new. Had one done about two years ago. I was very pleased. mine was rusted and bent..Not cheap, but NAPA ain't got them anymore..All I have in front of me is the phone number. but I bet you could Google them. I have tried to find a substitute for the Hudson clylinder with no luck. I did make my own steering stops (essential as Ken stated) so I could use the original non PS pitman arm. I just turned the valve 180 degrees on the cylinder.

    Good Luck, Dave w (FL)

  • Thanks guys for all your input. Found what the rest of you must have found, nothing can be found. Spent the entire day yesterday trying to find the seal for the pump, O rings and a repair for the ram. Went to every hydraulic shop in my area. Was able to get all the O rings, no problem. The seal is another matter. Finally, at the last shop I stopped at, I lucked out. Some places just don't want to do anything out of the ordinary so they say nothing can be done. This place said, no problem! They will cut the end off the ram and make a new piston rod and size it to an available seal. They say they can make a seal for the Vicker pump, that was the piece I thought was really going to screw me. If all works out I will report the cost and the outcome. Looks like some of you have experienced the same problem. Thanks again for the help. A side note, I just picked up my 308 block after 9 months at the machine shop. All 7X mods and machine work complete and it looks good. Had pistons made for it as the block was already 60 over. Went with a three ring piston, big valves, hardened seats, ported and the whole nine yards.
