1936 Terraplane Spare sidemount

I am trying to figure out why the sidemount on my 36 Terraplane is not sitting vertical, it's off enough where you can see it when looking straight at the car from the front. I don't see where it can be adjusted maybe a spacer? Anyone else ever dealt with this problem?

  • Hard to tell how much it's off by the photo, Ironman. It don't look bad. Have you entertained the thought of just shimming the top out by double-nutting the studs-that is putting a nut behind the rim on the top stud? Good luck...

Have you ever thought of letting some air out of the tires on the right side? :D

The adjustment on the sidemount is on the rod that runs verticle from the base by the frame up to the body at the top. The piece that the tire mounts on is threaded and it can be adjusted by putting a wrench at the top of the rod and turning it. The Terraplane side mount is different in a number of ways from the Hudson sidemount, if you have a parts book you should check your numbers.

I am about to install a right sidemount on my '36T sedan and I have had quite an education obtaining the parts that I need.
  • Hi Richard,

Thanks for educating me on the sidemount I'll check out the adjustment rod.
