Hudson Dealer Mechanic late 40's-50's

My dad was a Hudson Dealer/ Mechanic during the late 40's and early 50's. I have several pictures of him when he went to Detroit to take factory school. He was part of JRS Motor Car Company. I also have a tie bar that was given to him. It states on it "He proved his selling power - April/May 1950." Just wandering if anyone knows how I could get some information related to his schooling or why he won the tie bar. I have some old Hudson owners manuals that he had. He died when I was pretty young so I never got to get details from him. Anyone knows anything or would love to chat about this please feel free. Thanks a Million.

Hi, '51. Sadly, most of the old "factory trained" Hudson mechanics are gone now, but with any luck someone will jump in here and help you. Ralph Abell, of Florida, attended the factory school in the 30's but -- sadly -- he passed away two or three years ago.

Of course, this Forum and website attracts maybe 200-300 people on a regular basis, but the Hudson club has 3500 members. You might want to write a letter to the editor of the magazine, the White Triangle News, requesting information. I don't know if it's the policy to print letters of non-members (if that's what you are!) but it would be worth a try.

Of course, if you do have an interest in Hudsons it might not be a bad idea to hazard $25 and join the Club; the magazine itself is worth the price of admission! You may run into someone who knows about the school, through word-of-mouth or at a Hudson meet. The homepage is at http://www.hudsonclub.org/
  • Thanks for your reply.. I was hoping to spark some interest in this. I would even make a copy of the pictures available to anyone who might want them. I will take a look at the Hudson club for sure. Thanks for your reply. Oh! By the way my brother had a 53 Hudson Jet for several years in the 80's and 90's. His boss would barrow it to go collect bills. He said no one would expect it to be him. I remember trying to redo the wiper cord. When you only remember seeing it as a kid that is hard to do. Happy Motoring.
