Me too - I think the worst loss I ever had was came in 2nd to a ................................... girl - running a 49 Chevy.

I would of swore that big small block Dodge hemi I had in the 38 Dodge coupe could beat most everything. Hell, that gal just plain out drove me.

'Return of the Hudson' (Article from my July 1965 HOT ROD Magazine)

Jim Belllovich's Stock Hornet powered '54 Jet turned 14.82 @ 92.21.Article also mentions Loran Sapp running a Stoke stroke Hornet in an Anglia Won his Class at the '64 Winter Nationals 12.5 @ 106MPH. Also mentions Ike Smith from S&S Enterprises as builder and Jack Clifford early protoype speed parts..

(Anyone have pictures of Chuck Parcell's 'Black Beauty' Hudson Record Holder or Jack Cliffords Race Car from that Period)?[/I]

[COLOR="Blue"]'Return of the Hudson ' ( cont ) Here is what I take awy from reading this old Article.. Blocks are Tough High Nickle, Can be bored 1/8" safely, with competition valve job 311040 cam in a lightweight Hudson Jetr turns 14 & 90+MPH with good chassis hookup. A Stroked, multi-carbed or Injected Hornet Anglia ran 12's well over 100MPH...

Additionally, With the many 'new Technological advancements' that a few dedicated Hudson racing enthusiasts have developed lately using updated Chains, Cams, advance sprokets, large Valves, Heads, permseal gaskets, improved Induction, Ign, Tuned Headers, stall conveters, Torqeflight or GM transmissions, Etc, Hornet Motors should now turn much faster than back the early days..... Should be reason enough to build one.... I am...... ........Ol Racer

Okay, here are a few I haven't seen posted yet.

    1. Jim Skinner's El Mirage record holder, the guy whose time I'd like to beat with my Bonneville/Dry Lakes Pacemaker Brougham.

    2. My 1935 Railton LST running at Laguna Seca (built on Hudson 8 chassis and power train)

    3. My Hornet beating the sporty cars at Sears Point Raceway a few years back (1997?)

Ivan, Very Good Pics. I saw your Hornet up close and, it is Nice.

Do you have a picture of the engine in the 54 to post ?

    Thanks Rudy
  • Ivan--Good pictures--I've really enjoyed all the pictures posted. Ivan-working on the belt drive for the hudson. Finishing up my front plate today. This will be the ticket for your bonnie run. Did the adjustable chain and decided to do the belt. This will absorb the harmonics transfer from crank to valve train and vice-versa. Will put an idle on belt to prevent "belt flap" due to the absorption of harmonics. Will send you pictures next week of it on motor if you're interested.

    Randy,

Interested in seeing the belt drive, of course. For the dyno, I would love the ability

to make the quick change with the adjustable sprocket. If you will give it up, I would be happy to buy it. I see the car running at Bonneville with the belt after sorting out the best timing on the dyno. Feel free to email: ivanz62@comcast.net

Attached photos of Fred Henthorn's Hudson powered dragster for everyone's enjoyment.

via Karl Hanson on the Hudson Super six 16-29 group.

Pablo Alvarez's single seat GP racer in Argentina. This car ran in the 1922 Argentine GP. This appears to be a real historic race car and not a later year backyard special.

Note the neat brass plate where number six rod got tired of working in the dark and the corresponding divots taken out of number six combustion chamber. The excursion of the con rod through the crankcase happened during a race in 1923.
