PaceRacer50's winter project

He sent me some photos that keep my inspiration up, and my anxiousness for him to get some track passes with his outfit.

We'll call it the KaisaHudsebaker merger.

I'm highly envious of his carburetor, its the Old School piece I need worst for my own outfit. Its hard to be retro with the blaring "Edelbrock" placard on my carburetor.

Link to the pics.

  • Thanks Clutch guy, your opinion means a lot to me.

With some luck its going to be running and terorizing the streets by the 22nd of March guys. That is if all the little parts arrive in time....

    See you on the 29th.

I think you are right, and he's on track to have it ready by then. I talked to him last night and all he likes is the belt, bolting on the body panels, and one daunting task.

A task that has me slowed up, and one he'll likely scratch his head over. The water pump to radiator hose routing. The original Hudson lower radiator hose routing, goes right through the belt for the supercharger. What makes it irritating is the lower radiator spigot, it points skyward when we need it to be straight rearward.

Exciting stuff isn't it? Hats off to Ralph for diving into this with conviction.

I think the funny part is-Ralph went from no Hudsons, just memories with his Dad having Hudsons to making his own dreams come true!! Oh,and don't forget, you can't just own ONE!! -multiple Hudsons is the only way to go-Keep up the fun-LOL:D
  • Keep up the good work Ralph. I'm anxious to see and hear it run. Hopefully we can meet up this summer and run-em side by side.

  • Randy,

that would be cool but I believe I will be watching your taillights all the

way down track, not that its a bad thing! just being in the presents of

your all out drag 41 coupe gives me the cold shivers. that is one bad

    ride.

I am hoping to get down into the low 14's with this PaceMaker and at

3640lbs with me in it I take that any day of the week.

the belt is on the way and hopefully this weekend its going to be back

    together and running.

  • HOLY COW! I'm behind - its running!

I just opened up my e-mail, and have new pictures - but not enough time to get them downloaded to the classicar album.

We'll get things taken care of later.

Thanks Ralph! This project is what Hudsoning is all about, at least for me.

  • thanks Mark for posting the pictures.

Yes the beast is running and sounds good. was going to drive her

today but the weather was crappy and I didn't want to wreck her on

    the first test blast!

transmission leak ended up being a Doh! moment. I installed a manual

valve body conversion kit and removed the kick-down cable and installed

a plug into this hole. there is a threaded bolt hole right below this that

was used to bolt the Kick-down cable to the transmission. I left this

bolt out thinking it was a blind hole. Oops! its a thru hole right into the

tranmission fluid sump area! big leak but its fixed now.

So far everything else is going good but until that first test drive I won't

have any seat of the paints report for you guys.

Paceracer,That is ONE NICE installation and un like my turbo 262 you will still have that Hudson Twice-Pipes Famous SOUND. I miss the sound with the Turbo, (very little sound at all ) Now all you need is the decal for the rear window, IF ITS NOT BLOWN,IT SUCKS.

Hi All How would it work to use a Edmunds twin 2 bbl intake with a

4.3 L gmc turbo with 4 bbl carb and to hook up with a hand rail you

know what I mean Rudy ??? Happy Easter duncan

Happy Easter to you Duncan also.

Go for it,4.3L with 4-b.carb yes on the Rail

Thanks so much. Rudy. If you do go with the gmc turbo make sure that it has the Wast-Gate control with 2 hook-ups. (on the side there will be a small pipe on the pressure side and a small pipe on the Vacuum side ) The pressure side connects to the Boost side of the Turbo and Vacuum side will connect to a vacuum port under the Carb. This is done on Carb-Suck-Through systems. It will improve the fuel millage while in the cruse state. With no boost on the system the vacuum will open the Wast-Gate to allow less back pressure on the exhaust valves. And when the vacuum drops down the valve will close and then the Turbine will provide the power boost. Hope this helps. Rudy

Hey Ralph, did you get your Cpe.done yet?. Paul Schuster's 57HHdtp.is here and I wanted to race you in it! He said this thing is fast,so I just wanted someone to compete against while I drag race it!! Of course,I don't want anyone to tell Big Paul what we are doin" I'm ready-checked the oil in it and it's full-LETS GO!!
  • Clutch Guy,

Just about done. been fighting a leaking turbo 350 tranny. the accumulator cover has developed a leak now. tonight I am getting a new o-ring for this and will get this fixed.

also have a minor leak in one of the case o-rings for the supercharger but new o-rings are on the way and it won't keep me from driving it provided its full of fluid. its a real slow leak but will be fixed soon.

it runs real good but I have not driven it yet. hopefully that will happen before saturday morning! I can always trailer it down if I need to then drive it down there.

It Will Be There one way or another!

  • UPDATE: the transmission case is cracked at the upper tranny cooler line. this totally sucks big time as I do not have a spare tranny. its a turbo 350 with the short Camaro tail shaft.

I ground out the crack with a die grinder and will try some DEVCON on it tomorrow after work. I'm going to screw the fitting back in so it spreads the crack out, pack it full then remove the fitting to compress the DEVCON. I will let it dry good before I totally remove the fitting.

On a second note it does go into all gears and shifts good. just has a leak.

the accumulator cover was leaking and is now fixed. the spring in the accumulator used to slow down or make the shift less harsh was broken. I added a steel shaft to the inside of the spring to make the shift hard again.

You just got to love having a Drag Car. they can break the un-breakable like its made from the cheepest stuff out there! I am not supprised that the case is cracked but still this sucks at full throttle. Once I snapped a new Ford 9inch pinion gear in half in one of my old drag cars that had a 375hp 390 FE and a 4-speed. This was with street tires on it and a mild 2500rpm launch. stuff that never ever in a million year break turns to powder in a few thousands of a second!

It will be at Clutch Guys saturday... even if its leaking!
