Door latch for 1932 Hudson
I am in need of a right side door latch for a 1932 Hudson coupe unfinished hot project that i have acquired. If someone has one or info where to find one it would be greatly apreciated. I just registered but have been lurking in the backgrouind here for awhile. Thank you !! Steve

Steve:
Hudson? Or Terraplane? I don't know if they used different latches but it might be good to specify which you have. I suspect it's a Terraplane, since '32 Hudson coupes are scarce as hens' teeth.0 -
Thanks. yes I need to clarify. Not a terraplane. It is a 5 window coupe with suicide doors ( a straight 8 i think it is referred to often) and I think a latch from a 2 or 4 door sedan will fit also.0

I Added a picture to my profile. Not sure if it will show. I tried to attach it to this message but it was over the kb limit. I do not know if i can change the size. Here is a picture of my Hudson coupe with a chopped top when i got it in December of 2006.0 -
You can upload photos to one of two places:
1. The Hudson club's photo album site (here you can group several photos in your own 'album' -- http://groups.msn.com/HudsonEssexTerraplaneBulletinBoard/_whatsnew.msnw
2. The Classiccar photo site (look at the top of this page to find the link to PHOTO GALLERY.
Once you post them, grab the URL and you can either post it here as a link, or (using the little yellow icon) post the actual photo here next to your text.0 -

Just so you don't think that people are holding out on you... The 1932 is scarce, but the 1933 is scarcer (maybe 20 1933's are known to exist). So, guys with these cars -- if they have any spare parts at all -- are holding onto them for dear life!
I assume you have the mechanism for the other side. Maybe you could contact someone with a slightly newer Hudson product who lives near you and visually compare yours to his. Possibly the latch bolt slider mechanism is the same, but the linkages are different. Maybe you can cobble a linkage together if you have the slide bolt.
Or, if you have a parts book, you could post the part numbers here and one of us could check his own parts book (I have a '37 for example) to see if they're pretty much the same. My number is 120286-7 (left and right) which is a late 1930's number. Yours is probably much lower. But it might possibly work for 1934, which was a "big" production year.
Or, just bite the bullet and switch to some modern type latch mechanism. I'll be the hotrod suppliers have these. Probably muich safer than our old original ones, anyway, and it won't look out of place on your street rod.0 -
Thank you for your reply and advice. The original 32 mecanism does not use any linkage. I do not have a parts book. I will look on the latch for a part number engraving allthough it is rusty, perhaps with a good power brush cleaning a number will show up. Perhaps posting some pictures of the one have would help in locating another ,if some one has one similar and does not know it is for. So i will get busy on some pictures.
I do intend on using a bear claw latch either after market or from a late model car. I want to use the original style latch as it is the suport for the door handle. I will attach a lingage fron the mecanism to the bear claw latch for operation.0 -
Steve, keep a watch on this guy got to be dreaming but the door latches are there the rest is pretty much toast or a tiny patch panel or so
but when he doesn't get the price you might be able to buy the latches
