Hudson Big Six Valve Lash

I've read the recent thread that pertained mainly to the topic of setting valve lash on cold engines, warm engines, running, etc.

About the only call out I saw of the actual setting was something like .012I/.019E on a cold engine.

I wanted to ask what valve settings others have used successfully?

The factory specification is .010I/.012E. I realize that with today's gasoline, that needs to open up slightly.

In the past, I've set them to .014I/.017E (cold). This setting seems slightly 'loose', based on listening to the lifters. I've also set them to .012I/.014E (warm). With this last setting it seems to be a little 'tight'.

As always, thanks for the help.

    FYI

Set your valves on the loose side hot or cold especially the exh. Iniatially I set them cold then re-check after motor hot and off with 'auxillary starter button'.

Tight adjustment will burn a valve while setting on the loose side only gives a slight tappet noise.. Its better to hear them than not.........
  • H-guy - The next time I adjust the valves on a H big 6 (if I have the time) I will adjust them hot - .010" and .012". Then let the eng. cool off over night and see what the settings are cold. I am sure someone has already done some thing like this. Norm
