Auto Haulers

Has anyone here sold a car that was picked up by a third party auto transporter? If so, I'd like to know what you did about a receipt or other documentation when the car was picked up.

Thanks

Yes. Just recently, as a matter of fact. The '32 Ford was shipped from here (Texas) to CA via a third party who was great, as a matter of fact and would use again.

The car was all ready paid for, so documentation (like title and bill of sale, etc.) was put into a sealed envelope and stored in the trunk per the agreement by the buyer. I offered to mail it or to put it all in a lock box and mail the key if he wished, but the sealed envelope was his final choice. All went well, as we had a reputable transport company.

Here is some advise on sending a title, send it by registerd mail so that there is proof it is recieved.

The auto dealership I work for would never send a title in a car shipped by a 3 rd party. Think it over , the third party has possession of both the car and title!!

A lot of risk can be avoided for a small amount of postage.
  • The buyer has requested I send the title via Fedex or certified mail. I got the money so it is paid for. I was more concerned about a release from liability or something along those lines.

    Thanks
