So these items were banging around in the trunk of my '36 'plane when I got it. I have saved them hoping I could figure out where they go once I became more familier with the car. (Besides, I save EVERYTHING--just ask Amy) I still can't find a place for them and I'm wondering if I can safely pitch them? Can any of you HET wizzards help?

  • Denver - I think they are somekind of stablizer things on th sides of the trans. I may be wrong but I think my '37 had them that I threw away. Norm:confused:

Yes Norm is right, they go from the chassis to the side of the gearbox, usually have rubber pads which fit against the side of the gearbox, not really needed, the other part appears to be the lower gearbox mounting bracket.

Interesting. I thought the tranmission stabilizers were rather thick steel rods, threaded at one end (where they attached to the car frame) and with the cup at the other end (for the rubber donut, similar to the cup you see in the picture). These, however, are apparently flat metal.
  • Jon you have described exactly what our 37 Terraplanes have for supports but 1936 maybe different? The 1936 uses a different frame i think because our 1937 exhaust pipe goes thru the frame and 1936 goes under. We have the X- frame i believe.

Frames on '34 -'36 models are much narrower, hence different stabilisers
  • The small brackets are deffinately stablizers for the trans on the 36. I just took mine apart last week. The other bracket looks like the brace for the running boards.

I agree with Chris ... looks like a running board support brace.

Here are the tranny side braces "in situ", as the Romans would say.
  • :eek:You guys are good! I had the pleasure to see my car while it was up on the rack today, to get the exhaust built, and sure 'nuff I see where the trannie braces are suppose to be. And as Chris 'n Park noted, I noticed the passenger side is missing one running board brace.

I will make these adjustments and it looks like in spite of Amy's lectures, my "packrack" tendency pays off again!

    Thanks, Slim
  • That frame really looks good painted up like that. Did you do it yourself or is it a profesonal job? What kind of paint was used.
