Hudsons Stole Cool looks Of Chopped Mercs
I have bin around lots of cars and I have determined that Hudson stole the plans for the cool looking chopped Mercurys. I was at a car show and talked to an old guy who told me this. He was pretty old so he must be smart and this must be true.
He also told me that those Oldsmobiles stopped winning becauz Hudson stol the engine plans and were running Olds engines and won because they had to. Someone needs to set this strait for history. Cool Merc

Actually, if one looks really, really hard they will find out most everybody was stealing from Hudson, not the other way around.
Example: The Merc's that look like Hudsons didn't hit the pavement until April 29, 1949. The Hudson step-down showed up in October 1947 - a full 18 months ahead of the Mercury.
As for the engines, they had very little to do with Hudsons winning streak on the track. It was the fact that the step-down's were so much lower. Add that to the torque in the 308 engines and you had a monster by the cojones. Hudson's could go much deeper into the corners and come out like the dog that sat down in the turpentine.
Of course, maybe Hudson did send some guys over in the middle of the night to break into the Mercury and Olds plants to steal what they already had - but that wouldn't make much sense now, would it.
