First cruise night
I attended my first cruise night yesterday with the Hash. It was supposed to start at six and I didn't want to seem to anxious so I arrived at six and the place was full. Over 125 cars attended. I was so late I was out in the boondocks parked. It didn't matter, lots of folks saw the Hudson and came over to visit. Many told me they voted for the Hash as peoples choice because it wasn't all shined up, it was just an original car with 53 years of patina. I ran into lots of friends of Bill A's, lots of people who had fond memories of time spent in Hudsons and one guy who proceeded to tell others it wasn't really a Hudson but a Nash that stole the Hudson Hornet name, what a tool. There were a lot of really nice cars there, mostly GM and Fords, with a few Mopars and then some others including an Auburn Boatail, Bills Boatail looks better. It wasn't really anything more than a cruise night and I had a great time. I've got to put some elbow grease into getting the Hash polished up. By the way even with the wrong colors, Red and White, all the little kids saw the word Hudson and said Doc and came up and touched the car. That was cool.

LOL!
Good for you Harry!!! Ya hafta have thick skin to drive a Hash....or a Jet!!0 -
Matt, I don't just drive it, I take it to car shows.

If you take your '55 to the Western Regional in San Jose, we'll have to park next to each other. In one breath, folks will be able to complain how the Jet destroyed Hudson, and how your Championship 6 Hornet is really just a Nash. LOL0

If I can get my rat rod up there too they can say what a shame someone distroyed an old Essex like that.:D0 -
The funniest thing about all this is we are all driving orphans, but some of us are driving the redheaded step children of orphans. I doubt if I can take the time off to go to the western regionals, I failed at retirement so now I'm working more than before I was retired. Then just to make things more interesting I became captain of my sheriff's reserve unit this year so that I would make sure any spare time I do have is dedicated to the department. This year won't see me at many Hudson events but next year I should have more time. With any luck San Simeon this fall.

Harry: Thanks for sharing your experience.
I also went to a cruise tonite. 400+ cars, low riders, rat rods, true hot rods, restored muscle and classic cars. But as usual, my Wasp was the only Hudson. Like your experience, comments about CARS DOC Hudson, and many couples with grey or white on top who came by to reminisce or share Hudson experiences. One couple told of how they quickly rid themselves of a hand-me-down 40s mopar as the trade-in on a new 48 Hudson. All in all a great nite... even better because my BEST FRIEND, my wife, went too. She usually shuns these events... tonite we shared the show and she liked the experience... so, maybe more this month?
Have a great weekend ....0 -
I'm Planning on attending the first Cruise-in of the season on the Friday the 11th in Jefferson City TN, then on Saturday here in Newport. Need to really clean Gwen up. She is really dusty after sitting in the garage for 3 months.

Bob, I call mine Baby, I.E. come on baby, nice easy start.Of course it's another B name if she floods, as in, you stupid "B", what did you want to go and do that for. Mostly it's Baby though. I do like Gwen, sounds like someone you want to spend time with. Have fun at your first cruise.

Of course I'm prejudiced because it was my baby for so long, but the Cruise Night at the Wally Parks NHRA Museum in Pomona on the first Wednesday of every month is a great one. John Force Racing has a complimentary cruise at their shop in Orange County on the last Wednesday (usually). Both are free, both attract 300-400 cars every month. In addition to the cliches mentioned above, you can hear "Hudson never made trucks," "My uncle had one," "Who made Hudsons?" "Look, Mabel, a nice Mercury," "Quick, grab that shift knob while nobody's looking...I need it for my plastic-ass Ford."

Sam, I always love getting those comments and questions. I hope to make it out to one of the NHRA nights soon.0

:)It is that time of the year, glad you had a great time Harry. I admit there was a time that I did not give a "Hash" a second look, now I like them
In the small town that we live in, there is a car club that is made up mostly of Fords and Chevies and a few Mopars. This past weekend we had our first Cruise. We went about thirty miles to a park and had a great time, however the wind came up and it got very cold so that brought the get together to a close. We took our '49 Hudson Super Sedan and that is the farthest that I have driven it in nearly five years. It made the trip pretty well, however on a couple hills the engine would cut out like it was starving for fuel, and the generator decided to go south. That engine screams without the overdrive working, but we made it to and from. Of course we had the only Hudson and it always generates comments like, " my neighbor had one when I was small" or, I have not seen a Hudson in years, and who made Hudson, were they imported? Lets all get our cars out and let people know what Hudsons are. P.S. I used to fill my Hudson gas tank for what I paid for one gallon of gas Saturday. Have a Great Hudsoning season! Arnie0 -

Arnie, for years I drove Ramblers. I can honestly say that I am now paying in gas what I used to pay for one of those Ramblers!!!!!

We used to sell Richfield premium for $.33 a gallon and people called us thieves when they filled their cars. This was in the late 60's. We gave full service with all sales including pumping the gas, checking the tires and oil and radiator and cleaning the front and back windows, side windows if they were dirty. Now I laugh when I see a station that has some islands full service and some self serve, because no one will come out to wait on you if you pull up to full service. If anyone helps you with anything they stand with their hand out wanting a tip for doing their job. There doesn't seem to be anymore pride in a job well done

Ken, that is one fine looking ride. By the way, at my show my wife came down and brought me some food and brought our dog Wiley along. Wiley likes to sit in the back seat and watch people look the car over. He makes sure no one gets in.

Great looking Hudson. I like the color.0

Very nice looking Ken.
Harry, can I borrow your dog for the next show?0 -
Lance; you can but you have to take me too, Wiley won't let you in either. He's kind of that way where ever I put him.
