1950 supermatic drive info...

guys,

does anybody have any scanned information available that describes the supermatic drive option for 1950?

I am looking for something that tells the basic operation like what may have been in the owners manual or sales brocure. I have search but drawn a blank. I only need this description just to show how it worked to shift the manual transmission automaticly based on mph, engine load & rpm.

I don't have an owners manual and my shop manual does not cover the supermatic drive system.

basically I need this to prove to the NHRA guys here that this option did exist in 1950 so I can use my electric rpm shifter setup in Sportsman class. apparently the rules state I can not use a electric shifter setup in Sportsman unless the car was orginally equipped with one from the factor. The rule does not go into great detail but the supermatic drive basically does the same thing just with a manual transmission. Since my Pacemaker came with supermatic drive when new I have maintained that its legal on my car. with some proof from Hudson then I am free to use the electric shifter setup.

Anybody have a piece of lit from Hudson describing how this works?

if so can yoy email me a copy at hetTurbodude390@cs.com (drop the het)?

thanks,

    Here you go.

If you're simply looking for sales literature that proves Super-Matic was an option, and basically explains its operation, see pages 6 - 7 of this 1950 sales brochure (courtesy of Alex Burr) http://www.hudsonterraplane.com/tech/1950/1950HudsonSales.pdf
  • thanks guys!

this will fill the bill for what I need.

    I send you a decent '50 owner's manual for $15.00 including postage.
  • I have the Vacumotive Drive and the Drivemaster service supplements for the Hudson maintenance manual. I am not sure what the difference is between them and the Supermatic drive.
Both they and the overdrive are actually electric operated shifters.

Let me know if these will help... if so I will scan and send you PDF copies.
  • Ken,

thanks for the offer but I do believe the information I have from the two items above will be enough.

I guess the NHRA guys at the track will need to deciede if its going to be legal or not and I do not want to overload them with information at this point.

I do want to thank all of you for the help.
