More big-screen Hudson - CARS 2

Right on. We want more Doc Hudson!
Larry the Cable Guy, who voiced Mater in "Cars," took the stage to announce that "Cars 2" is going into production, with a planned release date of summer 2012. It's being directed by "Ratatouille" producer Brad Lewis and is the first sequel for Pixar outside the "Toy Story" franchise. Though "Cars" didn't do as well at the box office as some other Pixar titles, it has been a licensing bonanza for the Mouse House.

Quite a lag time between Cars 1 and 2. The kids who saw the first movie will be teenagers in 2012. Maybe Pixar is going after a fresh new crop.0

Paul Newman (Doc Hudson's voice) Has been quite ill of late. Lets hope he has a speedy recovery!0

Not only Paul Newman but George Carlin who was the voice of Filmore wasn't looking to chipper last time I saw him on TV. Let's hope they can keep the original cast.
....and maybe add another Hudson character.... Terraplane anyone? hehe0 -
Maybe A.E. Barit can make an appearance in the form of a stepdown limo or Hudson Jet. LOL0

I just watched CARs this morning with my youngest.
I wondered if it would continue to reflect on a historic highway or become futuristic like the Jetsons, but then I found the following excerpt on http://pixarcars2.blogspot.com/ and it leads me to believe that they'll leave most the car personalities behind in Radiator Springs and expand on the two main characters of the first movie.
"All the world’s a racetrack as racing superstar Lightning McQueen zooms back into action, with his best friend Mater in tow, to take on the globe’s fastest and finest in
this thrilling high-octane new installment of the "Cars" saga. Mater and McQueen will need their passports as
they find themselves in a new world of intrigue, thrills and fast-paced comedic escapades around the globe."0 -
I don't really see how they could leave Doc behind, He's the crew chief now.
The "international" angle just doesn't fit here at all. NASCAR is an American native sport that really isn't a format you'd find "internationally".
I could rip into numerous storylines, all highly biased towards Doc and the nostalgic angle that made "Cars" appeal to me so much. My hope was that a bit of role reversal would go on between McQueen and Doc. Doc suffering a bit of dilemma as he travelled on the road with McQueen finding all his beloved dirt tracks grown up in weeds and houses while his old buddies sat quietly in museums (retirement homes).
There was more than one "Eddie Felson" reference in the Cars relationship between McQueen and Doc. Not unlike the pairing of Newman and Cruise in the movie "The Color of Money". I would like to have seen a "prequel" not unlike "The Hustler" or at least some flashbacks of that nature
I'm smelling a pure marketing movie coming up, designed to do nothing but sell toys and missing the larger point. A point driven home very well by the original movie. The original "Cars" is a classic with an amazing storyline for a modern animatronic movie.
What am I babbling about. If Doc is there at all and the Ivan Zaremba sound bytes are used with the 308 screaming just once - I'll buy the movie anyway.
And the toys. Won't we all?

Mark, relax, it looks like Doc will be along. I'm guessing the racing will be road racing and we'll all like the movie just fine. Remember, Disney doesn't make movies for us old timers, it's all for the kids and what toys and accessories they can get their parents to buy them. I went out and bought those report books yesterday just because they were cars related and Doc was on one of them and I hate Wal-Mart and won't shop there unless they have something no one else does.

The first movie was so very American culturally, historically, and even in charater types. I'd like to see the next one continue to use Route 66 and Doc (obviously) ... I thought of showing CARS to kids over here in Romania. It has been brought here dubbed but there's so many American cultural references I just don't think it translates so well to kids here. Plus the classic car scene here is so very tiny as to almost be non-existent.0

I guess I get to come to more grand openings with Little " DOC "0

Actually, they will be releasing them in standard format and 3D simultaneously.
To do otherwise would be unprofitable for Disney/Pixar, as there simply aren't enough theatres with 3D tech installed.0
